Newtown NEWS
Newtown Elementary School
Hello Newtown Families,
We've made it to the end of another wonderful week. The kids continue to impress with their flexibility and passion for learning. We have gotten into a great routine and continue to appreciate the support and patience from families. Next week will be an exciting one for both students and staff as we have our NES Spirit Week. I'm looking forward to seeing all the creativity that our students show in getting involved.
Everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Student Learning Option Selection - 2nd Marking Period
Dear Newtown Families -
As a reminder, Council Rock parents may change their child’s current learning option for the second marking period. Specifically, the window to communicate a change runs from Monday, October 26th through the end of the school day on Wednesday, October 28th.
During this time, you may formally change your child’s learning status from hybrid to 100% virtual or from 100% virtual to hybrid. The change will go into effect on November 12th, the first hybrid day of the second marking period.
To change your child’s learning option for the second marking period, please contact me directly at (rfrancis@crsd.org). Upon receipt of your email, your child’s transportation and cohort grouping status will be modified.
Thank You -
Robert Francis

CR User Agreements - Hybrid Families
Beginning next week, students who have not yet been issued district devices will be bringing home the Mobile Device/Virtual Instruction/Interactive Live Streaming Agreement. We ask that each family please complete this, both front and back, and return to school as soon as possible. This document covers the expectations of appropriate use for all users, as well as considerations regarding the submission of photo, audio, and video assignments. One form must be completed for each child.
Student/Parent Sherpa Desk Help
At the current moment, the only mechanism for parents/students in a virtual/hybrid environment to get help is via the email address chromesupport@crsd.org
Effective Monday morning, October 26th, families can begin using our help desk system. The link is: https://crsdstudent.sherpadesk.com
The system will allow students/parents (student ID is required to submit a ticket) to submit a ticket for help. It will also allow them to see the status of existing tickets.
The first time they use the system, they will need to setup their account. This will require a unique email address, the location where the student attends school (this is a required field), their first and last name, a phone number where they can be reached (if additional/different contact information/preferences are desired, they can be included in the body of the request), the type of issue (called class on the form - this is also required), the student ID (this is required), a subject or brief description of the issue, and then the details about the issue.
To see the status of a ticket that was submitted, they can click on that option, login with their email address and password (set during account creation).
We will continue to monitor the chromesupport email address but will refer parents/students to the ticketing system if they have an issue or problem that needs to be resolved.
The two biggest advantages to this system are that the ticket will go directly to a technician, and the parent/student will be able to see the status of the tickets they have entered.

Council Rock's 9th Annual You Be the Chemist Challenge
Does your child love science? The You Be The Chemist (YBTC) Challenge® is a free, fun and innovative academic competition associated with the Chemical Education Foundation and Dow Chemical. The YBTC Challenge® is an interactive event in which fifth through eighth grade students work with teachers, peers and Science National Honor Society students to learn about important chemistry concepts, scientific discoveries, and laboratory safety. This program also educates students about the value of science education and the role of chemistry in their everyday lives.
We can’t wait to see what this year’s participants accomplish! A special thanks to Dow Chemical and CREF for sponsoring this annual event. If you have any questions please email
tduke@crsd.org or pkoul-gadinski@crsd.org . Registration deadline is December 11, 2020. https://forms.gle/LjzYdhykoiFq477SA
Free Lunch Program Extended to All Students
A la carte items (e.g., snacks, ice cream and certain drinks) are NOT included as part of the free meal, and must be paid for the student’s lunch account. A la carte purchases will be deducted from the account after purchased.
To add funds to your child’s account for a la carte purchases, check their account balance or sign up for low balance notifications and auto-replenishment, please visit https://www2.mypaymentsplus.com/welcome
We will return to the traditional model of lunch service, where students pay for their meals based on approved eligibility status (paid, reduced or free).
