Bulldogs Are Better Together!
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We hope that your family has had a wonderful summer holiday. We have been looking forward to seeing your children back at school.
With the H-E-B ISD’s commitment to a continuous improvement approach to learning and teaching, we want to ensure that Bedford Heights’ students are challenged daily to think critically and with purpose. Structures to help students transition between areas in the school can help with this goal. These structures are part of our school-wide efforts to create great citizens for now and the future!
We also want to assure every family at Bedford Heights that our focus is your child. Our school mission statement has been in place for over 25 years!
At Bedford Heights:
All Children Have Individualized Educationally Varied Experiences.
We ACHIEVECurriculum/Parent Meetings
Come Hear Grade Level Information!
All of our grade level meetings will be taking place on two nights. On Thursday, August 24, there will be two opportunities for you to visit a Kindergarten - 4th grade homeroom. Each homeroom teacher will speak to a group at 6:00 and 6:45. Kindergarten will meet in the cafeteria at those times.
On Tuesday, August 29, there will be a chance to follow your child’s individual schedule in 6th grade. This process starts in the homerooms at 6:00. All 5th grade will meet in the cafeteria.
Morning Arrival!
Please be aware that supervision in the cafeteria for your child begins each morning at 7:15 A.M. Students arriving before 7:40 A.M. are to go to the cafeteria to be dismissed to the classrooms at 7:41 A.M. A grade level teacher escorts their students to the classrooms at this time. Breakfast ends at 7:40.
School begins each day at 7:50 AM!

Other Odds and Ends!
Daily Pick-Up and Drop Off
We are reminding all drivers that only Day Care buses and Bedford Heights’ faculty and staff enter and/or park in the parking area located on Bob Nash Drive. Thank you for making the necessary arrangements to help with the safe arrival and dismissal for all of our children.
Crosswalk Crossing
It is important for student and parent safety that any crossing of a street is done at a crosswalk. There are eight major crosswalks near or around Bedford Heights and crossing at these locations will help pedestrians and motorized vehicles navigate around the campus safely.
Please note that Bob Nash Drive should not be crossed into the East (Faculty) Parking Lot. This is a dangerous area before and after school with many blind spots that motorists cannot see. Please cross at the corner of Bob Nash Drive and Cummings. Our crossing guard will get you to school in the safest way.
Sibling Meeting Place
A Meeting place should be established for family members after school. All students will be brought into the foyer in front of the office at 3:15 each day.
Please Join Our PTA
We hope you are able to join our Bedford Heights’ PTA this year.
The PTA provides birthday recognition to our students and pays for all student field trips. The organization also sponsors our Dad’s Club and creates wonderful experiences at holidays for your children!
News From The City!
The south curb of Cummings, east to Bob Nash Drive and west to Simpson Terrace will be Two Hour parking. The side closest to the school on Simpson Terrace will also be Two Hour Parking. The north side of Cummings will stay as No Parking and will become one lane of westbound traffic. Due to the measured lanes of traffic and the size of emergency vehicles, there will no longer be any variance for parking in already established No Parking zones, which has been the practice of Bedford Heights families at arrival and dismissal since at least 1989.
Bedford Heights has been fortunate that a situation involving the need for emergency equipment at the school or at Amherst Apartments during arrival or dismissal had not arisen. The change needs to be made because of the potential safety issue. The city traffic department will have signs giving information on the impending changes in place shortly. The changes will not take place until the city has the ability to use the machinery needed to grind out the existing traffic lanes and then re-paint the parking areas and the new line for traffic. In the meantime, there will be officers at the school at dismissal to help with communicating and education concerning the impending change.
Your Family May Eligible For Savings!
Did you know that each student has their own ID number that is entered for cafeteria transactions? This confidential method of making food purchases enables families to place money in student accounts or get the breakfast or lunch meal without any knowledge of the method of purchase!
We would like to encourage you to apply online for Free & Reduced Meal Benefits. With meal prices being $1 for breakfast and $2.70 for lunch, you could possibly save $60 per month per child if you qualify.
Go to www.schoollunchapp.com to apply today. Please remember, you must re-apply each year for meal benefits. The status of your application will be sent to the email address provided on your online application, and can also be viewed online at www.schoollunchstatus.com within 10 days after applying.
Paper applications are also available at each school and at the Child Nutrition Office. If you have any questions call your HEB ISD Child Nutrition Services office at 871.399.2120 or 817.399.2126.
