Banning Lewis Academy Newsletter
Information for Kindergarten-12th Grade (September 3, 2021)
What's Happening at BLA!
Elementary School: This week at the Ranch has been a great one! We had a 5th grade presentation from Colorado Springs Utilities to discuss the Water Cycle and where their water comes from. We also had the great honor of inducting our new National Elementary Honor Society members. We are so proud of this group of young scholars and leaders. We hope that you can enjoy the 4-day weekend with your friends and family and benefit from some much-needed rest and relaxation.
Middle/High School: Our students have been working hard this past month and we hope everyone has fun/relaxing plans for the upcoming long weekend! Remember, there is no school for students on Friday or Monday!
Back to school night will be a Flipped Classroom! A document with your student(s) teachers will be sent out Tuesday afternoon. There will be a video and a short blurb about the teacher and their class! Please watch the video and read the blurb before back to school night on Thursday, September 9th @ 6:00PM. Then, parents can ask questions as they go through their student(s) schedules about the videos and blurbs!
CMAS Scores coming home September 7th!
Be on the lookout for your student’s CMAS scores. They will be sent home with your child on Tuesday, September 7th. Please take a few minutes to review your child’s scores with them.
Letter From a Leader: Kevin Junod, Elementary Dean of Students
I have loved my first month of school as the new Dean at Banning Lewis Ranch Academy. Everyone has been so welcoming and supportive of me in my new role.
I have lived in Colorado Springs the last 35 years, and even though I am not a native this is my home. This is my 11th year in education. Over that time, I have taught 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade math. I enjoy spending time with my 3 boys outside hiking, fishing, or camping. I have really enjoyed getting to know the students at Banning Lewis Ranch Academy as I visit classrooms and while I am in the lunchroom.
Reminders for pickup and drop off:
- Please use the crosswalks to safely cross the street. This helps keep everyone safe.
- Please pull all the way forward when using the kiss and go. This helps the flow of traffic keep moving, and gets students dropped off or picked up faster.
- Please give everyone a little grace during this time. Everyone wants the same thing, to safely and quickly get kids to school and home.

Parents, Please Join Us on the SAC!
The School Accountability Committee (SAC) is a group of BLRA and BLPA parents, teachers, and administrators who discuss topics mandated by the State of Colorado: review school performance and improvement plans, approve BLA’s use of Mill Levy tax funds, and make recommendations to the School Board for budget priorities. We meet bi-monthly and it's open to all. Please join us this year.
Next meeting is October 11 at 6:00 pm. Find info here:

STILL SEEKING PTO MEMBERS!
We may have a full board, but our outcomes are even more successful with the help of our PTO members. Thank you to those members for coming out and participating in our meeting last night. There were so many wonderful ideas expressed by attendees and this is what we need! We are still seeking PTO members and would love to meet you! With your membership, we can work together toward this mission. 100% of all membership fees support BLP PTO programs and activities. You will receive a first look at events and volunteering needs. You also enjoy the ability to vote on required topics at our board meetings!
Membership Dues are "per family" If you have students at both campuses, only one membership is needed. Click below to join!
Our Mission Statement. “The Banning Lewis Academy PTO exists to foster a positive working relationship among students, parents, school personnel, and the community by providing a variety of educational and fun experiences and the development of academic excellence. PTO will help propel school pride within the student, parent, and teacher community. Each year we are responsible for fundraising for items/equipment that doesn’t fit within the school budget for that year. We gladly organize fun events for the students and teachers throughout the school year.”
BLA 2021-22 SPIRIT WEAR UPDATE!
We are still experiencing a delay on hoodies due to production issues. Once received, BLRA Spirit Wear will be delivered to the classroom and BLPA Spirit Wear will be available for pick up at the front doors of the Prep when school is let out. This distribution will include all Spirit Wear orders placed after Round-Up. We really appreciate your patience!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR NEXT WEEK!
We have two events coming up next week:
- September 9 - Back to School Night
- September 10 - Uniform Giveway/PTO Meet and Greet
Volunteers are needed for help with setting up, breaking down, sorting uniforms, and assisting at tables for these events. Don't forget to sign up for a PTO membership for the quickest updates! Links to sign-ups will be emailed to PTO members, along with the links being posted on our website and PTO social media pages.
