Tips for Parents for Talking with Kids about the Coronavirus (source: childmind.org)
Don’t be afraid to discuss it! Not talking about it will often make them worry more. Your goal should be to help them feel informed and get more facts than they are likely to get from their friends.
Consider your child’s age. Don’t give too much information. Just answer their questions as best you can.
Ask your child what they have heard about coronavirus, and how they feel about it.
Deal with your own anxiety about coronavirus. Make sure you are calm while you are discussing it.
Be reassuring. The flu is actually much more common, and kids are less likely to contract coronavirus.
Focus on what you’re doing to stay safe: Wash your hands often. Sneeze into your elbows. Avoid touching your face.
Stick to your routine.
Keep lines of communication open.
