Mission Elementary
Riding the Wave of Excellence!
January 22, 2023
This week our third, fourth, and fifth grade students experienced learning opportunities by attending field trips that no doubt, enriched and reinforced what they are learning in the classroom. Field trips are recognized as important moments in learning; a shared social experience that provides the opportunity for students to encounter and explore novel things in an authentic setting. Here is what the 5ht grade students experienced.
Mission students had the opportunity to participate in a work experience simulation at JA BizTown. Each student was assigned a role in their business from companies including Kaiser Permanente, Scripps Institute of Oceanography, UPS, San Diego Union-Tribune, Channel 93.3 radio, US Bank, and many more. To prepare for the trip, students had to work together to fill out a loan application for their business and create advertisements to attract customers. While at BizTown they worked at their assigned job, had two breaks, and were paid twice (either "cash" or direct deposit to their debit card). They were able to use that money to: donate funds, adopt a pet, or purchase items such as a newspaper, fossilized shark tooth, or food (popcorn) at Jack in the Box. It was truly a wonderful, and eye-opening experience for our fifth graders!

INTRADISTRICT TRANSFER OPEN ENROLLMENT
OUSD students attend their school of residence based on their address; in order to attend another school in our school district, parents and guardians must request an intradistrict transfer.
The open enrollment period will end at 3:30 p.m. on March 31st for those wishing to apply for an intradistrict transfer for the 2023-2024 school year.
If your child is currently on an intradistrict transfer and will be attending the same school next year, you do not need to reapply. Students entering transitional kindergarten, 6th and 9th grade, need to apply for an intradistrict transfer if they wish to attend any school other than their school of residence.
All applications are viewed based on priority criteria and school capacity. Please fill out the online application or for more information visit this Student Services web page.
