Defenders - Defining Excellence Everyday
May 5, 2024
Notes from our Principal
Hello Driscoll community,
Happy Cinco de Mayo. There are only four weeks left of this school year and many events and upcoming details happening to close out this school year. Thank you for ensuring your students are in attendance each day. This week is teacher and nurse appreciation week. Please consider sending an email or a note of appreciation to our hard working staff in honor of this appreciation week.
On Tuesday, May 7, we will take the End of Year (EOY) MAP Reading test and will be using the data to review the growth that students have made this year. We will be on an adjusted bell schedule for the testing day and it is pictured below.
As we look ahead to the upcoming school year, we are reaching out to our wonderful community for your support. The success of our PTA is crucial to the well-being of our school and our students, but without volunteers like you, we risk losing this invaluable resource. Your involvement in the PTA not only benefits our students but also strengthens our school community as a whole. Together, we can continue to provide the best possible educational experience for our children. Please consider volunteering your time and talents to support our PTA. We have various opportunities available, and any amount of time you can offer is greatly appreciated. To volunteer, simply complete this Google Form
Our 7th grade Field Day is planned for May 23 and Ms. Jocz, our 7th grade team leader, is looking for parental volunteers to assist with the field day events. There is a graphic below with more details or you can email kjocz@neisd.net if you have additional questions regarding the 7th grade field day. Donations are also being accepted for this event. Our 8th grade End of Year Party will be Friday, May 24, and more details along with requests for volunteers will be coming from our 8th grade teachers very soon.
Please review the many details included in this week's Driscoll News. If you have specific questions, please reach out so we can assist with those items. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

Great job to all of our soccer athletes on their competitive games on Saturday in the wet weather. Although all four of our teams won one game and lost the other, they worked hard and showed some great improvement. We appreciate the fans who came out to support.

Immunization Information
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL CURRENT SIXTH GRADE STUDENTS
In accordance with Texas immunization requirements, current 6th grade students who will be in 7th grade for the 2024-2025 school year, need the following immunizations to start school:
Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis containing vaccine (required)
- One booster dose if at least 5 years have passed since the last tetanus containing vaccine was received.
Meningococcal vaccine (required)
- One dose of meningococcal vaccine.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (recommended)
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all 11–12- year-old boys and girls receive 2 doses of the HPV vaccine to protect against HPV associated cancers.
Students must have a complete immunization record on file with the school nurse on or before the first day of school. Students with incomplete immunization records will not be issued a schedule or allowed to attend classes. Please submit an updated immunization record, including immunizations received over the summer, to the school nurse as soon as possible.
Make an appointment with your physician now to avoid the rush this summer!
If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Harrison at (210) 356-3203. Once your student receives their vaccines, please provide a copy to the school nurse. You may drop it off in person or email the record to sharri9@neisd.net . Vaccine records must include the student’s name and date of birth. For questions during the summer hours, contact Health Services at (210) 356-9244.
Attendance is Key to Success!
Your child’s attendance is key to your child’s learning and success. Our campus attendance goal is 96%. Our attendance last week was 95.0% attendance. Thank you, Defender parents for partnering with us by making sure your child is at school every day.
