SD104 LETTER TO PARENTS UPDATE: K-5 HYBRID LEARNING OPTION
Thank you for responding to our recent hybrid learning option surveys. The K-5th Grade Survey indicated that 24% of responses, preferred hybrid learning. The small hybrid class sizes combined with the current limited availability of classroom teachers would force consolidation of classrooms by grade level. Using the data gathered from the surveys, the District decided that all K-8th Grade classes will stay 100% remote until April 6th, or later, depending upon staff availability, student interest and the community 14 day rolling average positivity rate.
We appreciate your continued patience and support as we continue to explore ways to safely bring more students back to in person learning. We will be sending out additional parent surveys prior to spring break to determine if hybrid learning may be offered in April of 2021.
If you have any questions, please reach out to the office or classroom teachers.
For more detailed information, please read Dr. Whalen’s attached letter.

Notes from our Social Worker Ms. Calderon- (Safety: Part 3)
Parents and Guardians,
Hello! Here at school, we have begun to discuss safety- what it means, why it’s important and how we can we stay safe in different situations! In this specific newsletter we will be discussing how we can stay safe with strangers. Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help your child continue to learn about the theme of safety, through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! Thank you and have a great day!
Read About It
Here are videos to help children learn more about being safe with strangers. They can be found on youtube:
English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY7RhBszp0k&t=10s
Spanish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ekhnJOm9Ms
Practice It
Here are some examples of what you can do to practice being safe:
PK-1st: Practice what to do if a stranger approaches them or tries to talk to them.
2nd-4th: Talk about what to do if a stranger messages them online.
Talk About It
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about safety in the pandemic with your child:
•What is a stranger?
•What do we do if a strangers wants to talk to us?
•What do we do if a stranger wants to chat with us online?
•What do we do if a stranger tells us that they know our parents?
