The Weekly Hoot
April 24- April 30, 2017
Greetings All -
Is everyone as ready for the weekend as I am?? I know...silly question! We have a busy weekend ahead with t-ball games, 2 weddings, and some yard work. Hoping the weather holds out for all of that!
We have had a marathon week this week with SLOs, TPRI, summative conferences, etc... I want you to know how much I appreciate all of you pushing through and getting it done. The spring semester is definitely a test of endurance. You all are doing an amazing job!
After speaking with Mr. Beene and Dr. George this morning, I have a little more clarification on the comp days this summer. We have three days during the school year next year that we need to "comp out" of this summer. One of those days will be taken care of with our Eduhero trainings. The other two for teachers will be some type of professional develpment this summer. I would like to meet with each grade level on their planning days in May to discuss these. They will, for the most part, have to do with curriculum work here at the school. One or two might actually be a workshop, but we really need to each discuss this individually so we can make plans.
As far as instructional assistants go, I would like for each of you to find a training through Region 6 this summer to attend for one of your two days and then come by and "sign up" for a day to come up to the school during July to complete your second day. Any day in July is fine except for the week of July 4. Just let me know which day you would like to be here.
Lastly, we have only 5 weeks left ya'll! I was by the breakfast line yesterday morning when a kiddo hugged me and said, "I just LOVE to come to school!" Now this might be because that kiddo is well-fed, well-loved, and has outside influences that speak highly of school and how great it is so the child feels the same way, or this could be the child who is not well-fed, anything but well-loved, and has some pretty terrible outside influences so they think of school as a safe haven. Either way, we owe these kiddos our very best every single day. Five weeks can be a lifetime if we are just counting down the days until summer (and let's face it, we all are doing that! LOL!), but at the same time, it can be some of the most fun days of the year if we enter each day with a great attitude. :)
Have a great weekend everyone! Do something fun! :)
Love to all,
Marcy
Owl Wings This Week Go To...
Thank you to Dana Wagner, Kelley Tagudin, Tonya Luedke, and Connie Wetuski for the collaborative conversation this week after the faculty meeting. I love watching teachers figure out problems together and open up to each other. When we all pull together and utilize each others' strengths and talents, the results can be amazing!
Way to go, congratulations, and a big WAAAAHOOOOO to our 5th graders and their teachers for amazing first round results on the STAAR test! It is so exciting to see what excellent teaching, a vertically aligned curriculum, and data-driven instruction can do! You have all had a big part in this success and I am proud of everyone! As I have said a million times at least...it takes a village, and we have one of the best villages around!
A big pat on the back as well to Amanda Sechelski and her garden and gardeners! The garden is in full bloom, has been featured on KBTX, and the kiddos are being introduced to vegetables that they might not have otherwise eaten, but are at least trying, because they grew them themselves! I love this activity and the fact that you are successfully implementing it each year.
Thank you to Lisa Lara, Jenny Lewis, and Lynn Imhoff for coordinating an amazing bridal shower for our two brides-to-be! You ladies went above and beyond, and everything was beautiful!
Last, but not least, a big shout out to Michelle Moreland, Hannah Whitford, Erin Allgood, Amy Brown, and Jamie Mock for being rock solid in educating some of our students on a daily basis. Your kiddos seem to be thriving this year, and I know that it is largely in part to the consistency you are providing and the strategies that you slowly and intentionally focus on with them on a daily basis.
