At a magnitude of 5.6 it destroyed 35,000 homes and 147 schools. That's a lot of power!

Economic Hardship and Loss of Money

There was $4,000,000,000 in damage. It took quite a while for them to recover from the event. It killed 13 people and hospitalized 160.

Interesting Facts

- It happened three days after Christmas.

-It caused the most damage out of all the earthquakes in Australia!

-9 of the thirteen deaths were in the Workers Club, a popular restaurant.

- One of the major causes of injury was pavilions falling on Beaumont Street.
