Celebrating 35 Years of Progressive Education at CPE II Wednesday, June 8th

Parents at CPE II have the opportunity to see and hear about what is happening in their own child's classroom. On Wednesday, June 8th, however, parents will be able to walk through the rooms and halls of our school to get a broader view of what happens in our school. Starting in the late afternoon (exact details are forming) you will be able to walk through our classrooms and see a variety of student work. Middle School students and their work will be too. The walk-around will take place from 4:30 to 6. The evening will culminate in a dinner at 6PM. Plan to be there!

Harvesting Our First Crop

Working with his week CPE II students were able to harvest and eat their first crop from our CPE II garden. Parent volunteers cleaned and prepared greens and radishes and gave tastes to almost all students in the elementary school. Below are photos of our Kindergarteners enjoying their veggies that they harvested from our garden.

Hopes and Dreams

Hopes and Dreams is an annual initiative by our School Leadership Team (SLT).

Parents and Staff came together to build our work around The Greening of CPE II & Health and Wellness (Sustainable CPE II); Building our work around Social Justice & Kindness (Creating Compassionate Communities); Working toward a space just for CPE II & supporting the school through grant writing (School Advocacy), and Increasing Parent Participation through better Communication.

A more thorough report will be sent, including specific plans and timelines. This was not just a discussion, but the foundation of 4 working groups that will support our school in moving forward. We are hoping that each of you will find some way to participate in these working groups.

Soliciting Nominations for our SLT

Every year we hold elections for parent SLT positions. Parents serve 2 years on this school leadership body. The SLT is responsible for supporting our school in many ways. One example is our annual Hopes and Dreams. Another is the recent C-30 process which interviewed candidates for our Middle School Assistant Principal position. The SLT is also responsible for writing the annual Comprehensive Education Plan (CEP.) Got http://schools.nyc.gov/documents/oaosi/cep/2015-16/cep_M964.pdf to view this year's CEP.

Please email Yhane@cpe2.org if you are interested in nominating someone or yourself to run for a 2-year position on the CPE II SLT. Elections will be held on June 10th at our annual Family Picnic.

Sports Day 2016

The sun came out of us this year. It was a beautiful day. Kudos to our PE team, Rob and Dre for planning this. Thanks to the entire CPE II Staff for supporting this. And special thanks, as always to our wonderful parents who came out to make this a great day.

Have you purchased your CPE II COOKBOOK?

The CPEII community has come together to create a cookbook full of healthy recipes and tips for cooking with kids. This book builds on the importance of community, healthy eating and family. CPEII has a diverse student body and our cookbook reflects that. Cooking is a great hands-on, real-life way of exploring science, math, and social studies--things we study in school. Cooking with your child is a fun way to help teach your child about your heritage and/or explore other cultures. Our community cookbook is full of healthy recipes that complement the diversity of our community. This book was created through the Parent Association’s Health and Wellness Committee. The committee’s mission is to promote a collaborative approach to student, family and community health. This book builds on the CPEII Health Food policy, promoting health foods that kids enjoy.
