From the Principal
Dear Parents,
It is my hope you have been keeping up with the local news and Fulton County Schools email communications. As you know, FCS is in dire financial straits due to not being able to collect tax bills to date. I communicated to our staff this Tuesday just how serious this issue is and that making payroll is the district’s number one priority. Saying that, I called an emergency meeting with our SGC and PTO leaders Tuesday to inform them we will curtail all spending at CCES that is not absolutely necessary. I have asked the teachers to be mindful of every single item they use on a daily basis from supplies, to computer printing, copying, paper, and materials/resources. All field trips have been canceled until we can reevaluate in January. We have also halted almost all staff development for our teachers. I just want you to be aware of how serious a dilemma we are facing here in Fulton. Please stay abreast of communications each week. As a taxpayer, it is important you are informed.
On a much happier note, I am so pleased to announce our school’s College and Career Ready Performance Index was released publicly Thursday. We had a 9 point gain, bringing us back to being an A rated school. We also received a five star climate rating. Growth like this does not occur without high expectations for staff and students. I am so proud of our results as the leader of this amazing school. Last year, I personally was very hard on myself when CCES dropped to a B school with a rating of 88. I knew in my heart our teachers were working hard and focused on the right work for our kids. We were trying new approaches to teaching and now we see the payoff. We could not do this without your support.
And finally, way to #GLOFOR IT! I have never seen a community rally around an event more than you guys. Our parent committee works hard to make it so special. All students participated in the celebration, received a glo prize and a tee shirt. I have never worked in a school where a committee has attempted to be so inclusive of all students. At the end of the day, each child (all 776 of them) will benefit from the now over $111,000 donation. That, to me, speaks volumes. Jenn Fratesi and Candice Selby have put their hearts into this event and sacrificed lots of time away from their own families and lives. I want to personally thank them, and I hope you will too.

Veteran's Day Breakfast and Milton Literary Festival - November 11, 2017
The City of Milton proudly announces two tandem community events on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, 2017: A veteran’s breakfast followed by the Third Annual Milton Literary Festival.
Free continental breakfast will be served at 8 am. Following breakfast, over 40 best-selling authors are scheduled to appear in various panels, with audience participation.
Of particular family interest is the outdoor book trail at Milton Library. This mulch laden trail, built by members and volunteers from the Milton Literary Group, is located behind the Milton Library. While walking through the trail, kids and adults alike will enjoy reading pages out of a very popular children’s book selected for this year’s event. As information, the trail is open year-round.
