District Mission
We develop virtuous students who honor Mt. Angel's diverse culture and inspire their pursuit of academic success.
First Weekly District Newsletter
Hello Mt. Angel School District students, staff, parents and community members. This is my first attempt at providing a weekly district newsletter, Stoops' Scoop. One of my superintendent goals recently approved by the school board, includes increased communications of district activities to all stakeholders. The Scoop will cover a variety of topics in an effort to help the Mt. Angel Community have a better understanding of district operations, successes and challenges. If you want to hear about any specific topics, I encourage you to send me a message. My contact information is at the bottom of this Scoop.
Planning for Student Success Act Funding
Engaging the Community
Mt. Angel School District Staff are working on several plans this fall in preparation for funding from the Student Success Act (SB 3427) starting in the 2020-2021 school year. The District Consolidated Improvement Plan is due to the Oregon Department of Education in November, planning for the Student Success Act will follow. Staff at each school have been working for several months on assessing their building needs using the Oregon Integrated Systems Framework (ORIS). We are now in the process of using the same assessment tool to develop a District Plan. Resources can be found at this ODE link: https://www.oregon.gov/ode/StudentSuccess/Pages/StudentInvestmentAccount.aspx.
Mt. Angel Schools Continue to Focus on Mental Health
District Special Services Director, Erica Gordon continues to lead efforts to address student mental health. All district staff have been trained in Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) training www.qprinstitute.com. This training is not a form of counseling or treatment. Rather it is intended to offer hope through positive action. By learning QPR, staff come to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communications of people in trouble. and gain skills to act vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy. The district will make these trainings available for parents and community members again this year.
