Food shortage in confederacy
The struggle of being in war with your neighbors
A new reality
No longer do confederates look forward to a huge feast with steaks but instead would be luck to come across a grain of rice or a cob. A families monthly spend on food has gone from about 7$ to 69$ in just two years alone. To make things worst riots are occurring at bakery's over a loaf of bread.
1 cause
As more and more people were drafted to serve in the military the food supply lessened. This napped because most of the people drafted were produced food so with them not doing that any more the amount of food becomes more scares and the prices raise, when the prices are raised it becomes less easy for the civilians to buy the good. - There was a large amount of deaths on the line because of the lack of food.
A second cause
The amount of slaves I'm the confederacy was also a problem. Many slaves had gone to the union instead of staying in the confederacy forcing some lands to have a loss of agriculture laborer. When you couldn't depend on your slaves to do your work then the husbands and sons had to take over the land work , of course the only way that would be probable to work is if they aren't already on impressment.
A third cause
The unions blockade on the confederates ports was a huge set back . The blocked caused the confederates to have a shortage on all sorts of good including salt, sugar, coffee, nails, needles, and medicines. In hopes for a better life away from starvation Confederates smuggled cotton into the North in exchange for gold, food, and other goods.
