Astounding Inventions
Irvine Valley College is hosting their 32nd Annual Astounding Inventions fair on January 26th. Students have the chance to create an original invention to solve a problem they have noticed.
Students can work by themselves or in groups of 2, as long as they are within the same grade division (K-3, 4-5, 6-8).
Entry Deadline: Friday, December 21st, 2018.
Attached are PDF's that include information about important dates, relevant rules, pitch video information, and the inventor's notebook.
Miss Cross (4th grade teacher) is Eastwood's site representative. She will meet with interested students during lunch next Monday (12/10) and is happy to talk to any families who have further questions.
We can’t wait to see what our brave, awesome explorers create!

Language Arts
This week, we will begin to compare and contrast different versions of the same story. While we are reading, we will ask ourselves what do those stories have in common? What did we discover is different?
Math
We will continue to add double digit numbers together this week. Along with break apart and picture form, we will learn how to add numbers using standard and expanded form!
Social Studies
Now that we have learned all about rural, urban, and suburban communities, it is time to build! Students will be drawing a blueprint of their community and then building their very own Gingerbread Community.
View our Sign-Up Genius for the list of supplies we need in order to build our Gingerbread Communities. If you are able to bring in any of the items for all of 2nd grade to use, we would greatly appreciate it!

Journey to the Past Assembly - Volunteers Needed
If you are available from 10:30-11:30 on Tuesday, December 18th, please let me know. We would appreciate any help we can get. You don't need to be an expert craftsperson!
