Success Stories from 2020
Millard South School Store
"The Millard South Patriot Post school store has always been a source of community pride and part of our school's culture.
The Fall semester of 2020 allowed for Millard Public School students to learn in person or synchronously through a variety of technologies including Zoom.
Sales in the school based enterprise were down. Freshly baked cookies were no longer allowed to be sold. Spirit wear sales were down; a limited amount of fans were allowed to watch sporting events. Parent - Teacher Conference night was virtual, eliminating sales from a popular shopping night.
The students rallied and brainstormed ideas to lift sales. Two situations proved successful.
1. Small clubs and teams were contacted, offering custom made shirts and hoodies from our newly acquired printing press.
2. Online shopping was advertised on the school's website and a QR code was developed for the online store. The QR code was promoted on various social media platforms. "
In December, Millard North hosted the first all virtual competition for DECA chapters across the state. It was so fulfilling to see students be able to compete and have the experience, even though it looked different this year.
Pictures below is of Omaha Central preparing for their roleplays and Papio South students meeting at their school before they "logged on" for competitions.
Kearney High School DECA Thinks Differently about Conferences
The KHS DECA Officer Team organized and implemented the first annual KHS DECA FLC Conference in the KHS Library & Learning Commons (LLC). At this event, attendees were provided donuts and juice from breakfast followed by several activities that introduced them to what DECA includes. Our chapter also sponsored Subway sandwich lunch boxes. Our goal was to excite new members and try to emulate what the actual Nebraska DECA FLC conference experience would be like. We used the Nebraska State Officer and DECA Alumni videos to facilitate mini workshops as well. It was a HUGE success! We had about 25 attendees!
Pictures below are of KHS DECA officers, students, and classes.
