BCPS' Speak Up Survey Launches During American Education

This year, BCPS has worked with Project Tomorrow to offer a custom survey for BCPS stakeholders. Speak Up provides a unique way for the ideas and opinions of our stakeholders to have an impact on BCPS' S.T.A.T. program, as well as federal policies and programs. All data collected is 100% confidential. The Speak Up online surveys are open for input from Monday, November 16, 2015 to Friday, December 18, 2015.

BCPS’ district STUDENT ONLY secret word is: bcps

Between now and December 4th our students will be participating in the survey as follows:

  • Kindergarten through grade 2 - participation will be whole class. See Jen Dingle for the means to accomplish this method.
  • Grades 3-5 will stake the survey individually using the above link and student secret word. Homeroom teachers will determine the day and time when each homeroom will take the survey. From getting the computer to finishing the survey is approximately 15 minutes. Email Jen Dingle with the date and time frame for each homerooms participation.

Teachers will be provided time during the November and/or December grade level/team professional development/planning days to complete the survey.

IMPORTANT: NEW 90-day Password Policy Requirement For BCPS Teachers and Staff

In an effort to strengthen user security and maintain compliance with Maryland state audit policies, the Department of Information Technology will begin a phased implementation of a new 90-day password policy. The implementation will begin the middle of January 2016, and continue through May 2016.

The new password policy will require users to change his/her password every 90 days and require a much stronger password complexity then was previously allowed. The password must conform to the following requirements: 

  • Password must be at least eight (8) characters in length 
  • Passwords must contain characters from three of the following four categories:
  • - Uppercase characters (A through Z)
  • - Lowercase characters (a through z)
  • - Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
  • - Non-alphanumeric characters: ~!@#$%^&*_-+=`|\(){}[]:;"'<>,.?/ 

Passwords cannot contain the user’s complete username or parts of the user’s full name that exceed two consecutive characters

Other important changes include: 

  • The password will only be valid for 90 days and must be changed. 
  • Users will receive a daily, automated e-mail, starting 15 days prior to the password expiring, to remind them that his/her password needs to be changed.

Domain 2 - Highly Effective Looks Like...

Focus on Domain 2a - Creating an Environment of Respect and Rapport: Teacher Interaction with Students:

  • sets aside time outside the classroom to help students.
  • shares, in an appropriate manner, personal stories and situations that apply to the classroom setting.
  • plans for and seeks out ways to build respect and rapport with students.

Students point out, as appropriate, if another student treats the teacher with disrespect.
