New Interim Principal- Samuel Bogdanove

Dear Parents and Students –

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. The year ahead is full of promise. This week staff and teachers have been readying for classes to start and the return of students to AHS. The excitement and anticipation is palpable as we gather and prepare for all the good things to come.

As you may know, I am serving as Interim Principal for the coming school year. I have been fortunate to serve in the District for the past 18 years, primarily as Director of Student Services, and to know many students and parents in that role. It is especially exciting for me to have an opportunity here at the high school. My daughters grew up in Ashland schools and both graduated from AHS. Their experiences here were exceptional. My goal is to continue the traditions of excellence and community that are signatures of our high school.

It will be a busy year here at AHS. We will be finalizing plans for the bond that our community has generously given to help make our schools healthy, safe and optimal places to learn. We have curriculum development projects going on in several areas that will have a direct impact on classrooms. Measure 98 and the Student Success Act have provided increased dollars to support learning and we’ll have access to some new resources and equipment in many of our classrooms. Lastly, the district will be going though the process of hiring a new AHS principal for 2020-2021. There will be additional details about the hiring process and opportunities for community involvement soon.

I look forward to getting to know and work with each of you. If you are new to AHS, or returning, thank you for being a huge part of our success and school community.

It is a great year to be a grizzly-

Samuel Bogdanove

Interim Principal

Financial Aid (FAFSA) Information Night

Financial Aid (FAFSA) Information Night for Seniors and their Parent/Guardians

Wednesday, September 18th, 6:30-8:00 pm in the IVC

On Wednesday, September 18th from 6:30-8:00 pm in the IVC, AHS counseling staff will discuss the process for completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is an online application ( which qualifies students to receive the Federal Pell Grant, the Oregon Opportunity Grant, the Oregon Promise, and government loans. This meeting is important if your student plans to attend a private/public university, community college or vocational school. Even if you think your family will not qualify for federal financial aid, it is important that you complete the FAFSA. Some schools will not give students merit aid unless they have a FAFSA on record. We will also briefly discuss the CSS Profile, a separate online application many private schools use to determine institutional financial aid (

The 2020-21 FAFSA goes live on October 1st and will use tax information from 2018. Students planning to start college in fall of 2020 should complete the 2020-21 FAFSA. Before October 1st, both the student and one parent can sign up for an FSA ID. The FSA ID is the Federal Student Aid Identification students and parents use to sign and verify information on their FAFSA and federal student loans. It is important that students sign up for their own FSA ID (

Prior to filling out the FAFSA, families can also complete the FAFSA4Caster ( to see if they will likely be eligible for government aid.
