Keeping the Connection

Aloha!

As many of you know, Cadence's theme verse is 1 Thessalonians 2:8, "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our very lives as well, because you had become so dear to us." Well, we miss you! Some of you have been gone from Oahu for quite a while, while others it's only been weeks or months. Our desire is to publish a newsletter to update you on the ministry here and to also share what's going on in some of your lives as well. We want to keep you connected!

Alumni Spotlight: The Cornell Family

Where are they now?

Since leaving Home Port, we have come to San Antonio, TX where God has blessed us with a great church family. It is a church-plant that was established in the past 5 years. God has really used the spiritual giftings that were developed in us through Paul and Stacy here in our new church family. Jesse now serves on the deaconate with the support of Julie. Truly a humbling experience to say the least!

In our personal family life, God has entrusted us with another one of His wonderful gifts. We had our third child, Rachel Suzanne, on December 15th, 2013. She, along with her older brother and sister, Dawson & Laci, have given us the privilege of raising children up for His kingdom... which is one of the toughest and most rewarding jobs on this earth in our opinion.

A VERY HOT SUMMER

Many of you can remember sweating in the living room while Paul taught us a lesson from the Word. Add 15-30 more people (up to 65!) and temperatures averaging 10 degrees hotter (and no trade winds), and now our living room can be unbearable. We have begun a fundraising campaign for a new A/C unit. It will be a split unit that will only cool the living room. Thankfully, we have about 75% of the funds!

Samantha Pierre (Sam) organized a month-long scavenger hunt to raise funds for the A/C unit. We have had a blast as our teams have gone around the island taking photos and video, answered riddles and done some really silly things. The hunt ends this Friday and we are hoping that we have the balance of what we need for the unit! (People had to pay to be on a team and then folks are "betting" on which team will win. The one who bets the most on the winning team gets a prize.)

From Military Service to Missionary Service

John and Stephenie Reilly have been a part of Home Port for over 2 1/2 years and are now our newest interns! We are thrilled to have them serving alongside us ministering to the Oahu military community. They have jumped in with both feet and are transitioning quite well from military service to serving the military. One of the first things they did was convert their garage to a singles' hangout, The Cave, which is the latest name given to it. We have a growing singles population - and they like to hang out!

John, Steph and their two boys, Micah and Miles, live next door at HP2 (Home Port 2), which we use each week for Women's Bible Study (Monday nights) and children's ministry (Friday nights), plus much of the week's random ministry is happening there. Paul and John also share an office in the bottom level of the house.

We'd like to invite you to prayerfully consider partnering with either John and Stephenie Reilly or Home Port in order to help us cover the large financial need we have each month. John and Steph are at about 60% of their support need! We are so excited about this. Home Port is in need of an additional $3000-$3500 per month to meet the financial needs of two ministry houses.

The community here is giving, but the need is great and we would love for you to partner with us in supporting a ministry that you believe in and has ministered to you in some way. Some of you already are. Thank you! Many of you pray regularly for this ministry and us - and we are eternally grateful for you!

Giving to Cadence International is easy!

Prayer - the true connection

Since you know this ministry, we would love for you to be praying for us.

  • Our Christmas outreach - Aloha Christmas Breakfast - locations, volunteers, funds, etc.
  • Unity in our team (Reillys and Cassidys) and in the ministry.
  • Wisdom for some difficult situations.
  • Praise the Lord for some great, supportive chaplains! Pray for a strong partnership.
  • Travel scheduled this fall and winter. Pray that people would step up to help.
  • That we would completely trust the Lord for all of the needs of the ministry.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

KEEP THE CONNECTION

Because of the transient nature of the military, you are moving around all of the time! We are thankful for social media, like Facebook, to keep track of many of you. We hope that we can be a tool to help you stay connected with each other, where you can find a friend easily when you move to a new community or get help finding a good church because someone else has lived there before. Oftentimes, we just need some encouragement from someone who knows us.

"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing."

1 Thessalonians 5:11
