Principal's Message
Dear Parents:
Please help Duluth Middle stay "UNPLUGGED". We have revisited our cell phone policy with students and staff. The rule is that students may listen to their music with ear buds coming and going on the buses. However, when they walk into the school, they need to unplug and put all phones and ear buds out of sight. Cell phones should not be seen in the hallway, in the classrooms, or in the cafeteria. The only time a cell phone may be out is if a teacher allows a student to have it out for research. In that case, it is up to the teacher to monitor the activity and make sure the use of the phone is for instruction only. Once students have been dismissed and are out of the building, they may put the ear buds back in to listen to music on the bus.
We appreciate your support in helping us keep the focus on instruction. It is our academic focus that brought us recognition at last night's GCPS Board Meeting as the only Title 1 Middle School in Gwinnett to be named a distinguished school. This honor was based on our achievement on the state report card for schools, the College and Career Ready Index (CCRPI), which puts us in the top 5% of Title 1 middle schools in the state. Additionally, we were number 5 out of 29 middle schools on the GCPS weighted school assessment, based on achievement, management and climate.
I'm proud to be a Wildcat!

6th Grade Parents - DMS Spanish Program
Dear 6th Grade Parents:
Your son or daughter has the opportunity to apply for the yearlong Spanish program at Duluth Middle School. This course is an entry level course for non native speakers. Spanish 1 at DMS is the equivalent to the high school Spanish I course, taught over two years in middle school. Students enrolled in yearlong Spanish 1 in middle school will receive a high school Carnegie unit for Spanish 1 when they complete the course in 8th grade. Numerous studies indicate that students who study a foreign language at an early age and stay with it for several years, perform better on the verbal section of the SAT. There are so many benefits to being bilingual in today’s world! You will find the link to the Spanish 1 program application on the Duluth MS website. If you have questions, please email Ms. MacLean.
