College Night at the Mall
Spotsylvania Towne Centre will host College Night on Wednesday, October 21 from 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Students across the Fredericksburg area will be able to meet with representatives from colleges they are interested in or have never even heard of.
Students have an opportunity to check out schools ranging from Pennsylvania to Florida. There will be a variety of colleges: all women’s colleges, career and technical schools, all men’s colleges, and so many more.
The event is also expected to include military recruiters.
Students should come prepared with questions to ask the college.
Students can register at www.gotocollegefairs.com
Transitioning Back to School
Whether your student is an experienced high school student or transitioning to high school for the first time, the start of a new school year is exciting but also can be stressful.
Navigating crowded hallways, getting to know new teachers, and making friends are common at the beginning of school. It is important to help your child learn to deal with feelings of being overwhelmed and to take the time to ask for help from his/her teachers and counselor.
Work with your child to establish a study routine, stay organized, and establish high expectations!
Courtland High School takes pride in supporting our students and helping them accomplish their academic and personal goals.

UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA: Jefferson Scholars Foundation Scholarship
The Jefferson Scholars Foundation Scholarship is a fully funded undergraduate scholarship intended for the senior who best exemplifies excellence in the Jeffersonian ideals of leadership, scholarship and citizenship.
Each year Courtland High School is able to nominate one senior to be considered for this prestigious award. This is entirely a merit-based scholarship for the senior who has demonstrated uncommon academic abilities, exceptional leadership talents, and an understanding of the broader community around them.
This scholarship covers the entire cost of attendance for four years at the University of Virginia plus coverage of supplemental enrichment experiences.
The Counseling Department is currently accepting applications from seniors who wish to be considered for nomination. The deadline for submitting an application is October 19. Please contact Bart Nave in Counseling for more information.
