We had a great time playing pumpkin math games, dissecting pumpkins and the history behind pumpkins in fall (they originally originated in Ireland)!!!
First Grade
Going home this week is information and permission slip for our next field trip to The Showcase of Citrus. Permission slips are due back Friday November 8th
Second Grade
Second graders loved our first field trip to the Young Person’s Concert at Bob Carr. We learned the elements of what a good story has, and got to see the orchestra, ballet dancers and opera singers.
Red Ribbon Week was awesome! Thank you to our second graders for their participation. We enjoyed seeing Orlando Fire Department’s Station 7 and the Orlando Police Department Mounted Horses Unit this week.
All the second grade classes loved our October STEM days! Students worked through rotations of making a skeleton and learning bones of the body, creating the tallest candy corn tower, bone bridges, wings wanted, treat toss and creature catcher. Thank you to our parents for our donations!
Third Grade
Third grade had a wonderful time at our Fall STEMDay we also enjoyed The Great Travel Fair. We learned about different states across the USA. Everyone has been singing Fifty Nifty.
Mrs. Sokoloff’s classroom was anatomy and we learned about the bones of the body.
Fourth Grade
Fifth Grade
Fifth grade celebrated fall with a fall STEM day. Students constructed mazes for hex bugs with obstacles, they participated in a fall web quest, and they designed and constructed spooky houses. Students that met their AR goal were able to spend the afternoon celebrating at a painting room, making crystals, augmented reality, having extended recess, using electronics with friends, and celebrating all things Harry Potter.
Next week, all fifth grade students will be participating in an ELA benchmark test. This will not be for a grade, but will be important to design instruction.

superhero science night
On Thursday, October 24, OSES families participated in a superhero STEM night. Students and their families had so much fun learning about different STEM topics like friction, flight, and symmetry. They also were able to explore even more topics using hexbugs and robotics. The highlight of the night for many students was making glow in the dark slime and getting fake villain scars put on them. St. Vic’s Smokeshack also made an appearance with some wonderful barbecue food. Students who participated in the superhero STEM night were able to dress down the next day by showing their passport. It was a very successful night of vigilantly fun!
