Eagle Flyer
A newsletter for Walnut Hills High School
Principal's Message
February 12, 2021
Dear Walnut Hills High School Families,
We are excited to use this special edition of the Eagle Flyer to share the redesigned structure of our Honors Program.
One of my favorite words is “evolve.” It is time for our Honors program to evolve so that ALL students have a pathway to excel. The Honors program originated at a time when AP courses were primarily for the academically gifted. The Honors classes served as important preparation for the students most likely to go into those AP courses. Now, Walnut Hills has evolved to the point that we want all students to be prepared for accelerated courses and have a more individualized approach to advanced studies.
Equally as exciting is the opportunity to expand elements of our successful 7th grade teaming program into 8th grade cross-curricular cohorts. We believe these unique programs in junior high will prepare all students for high school success. The redesigned Honors program in 9th grade serves as the connection between this junior high preparation and the AP courses offered in grades 10-12.
We hope that all parents will read this information to better understand our instructional program; however, this information especially pertains to parents of current 7th graders and parents of 8th graders in our current Honors program. The redesigned Honors program has been discussed with our entire faculty and endorsed by the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and Local School Decision Making Committee (LSDMC), both of which have representation of all stakeholders.
Sursum ad Summum,
John Chambers
