Salmon's Week 14 Update
December 7th - 11th
Overview:
Writing: All final drafts were due today, Friday. The kids have worked so hard to write these papers and projects. I'm so proud of them and what they have accomplished. All posters are due December 15th and you may send them in anytime!
Science: We are learning about the brain and how it controls our body. This week we focuses on the 6 parts of the brain. The kids really enjoyed making "clay-brains". I'm sure you heard all about it.
Social Studies: We will be finishing up the Southeast in the next week. Our focus has been on the historical events in the southeast including the Civil War and Civil Rights Moment.

Peek into Next Week
Writing: Next week the students will be working on speaking skills by working with partners to present their papers. I will be asking that you also help at home by having them "present" to a family member each night. This means that they should work on eye-contact, standing still and appropriate speed and voice level. We are so excited to present our projects on Monday, December 21st. Please mark your calendars and plan on joining us at 2:15 for presentation in the cafeteria.
Social Studies: Our unit on the Southeast will be wrapping up and we will have a quiz late next week.
Science: The Brain Unit will continue through this week until the break.

Please Help:
Our National Honors Society is holding a blanket drive during the month of December and would like to get our entire school district involved. The blankets will be donated to the Warming Center to help keep the homeless population in our area warm during these cold months.
We are asking that people bring in blankets that are in good condition- new or old. Those brought in will be placed in a container (a cardboard box is perfect) at a designated area of the school and then remain there until our NHS members come around to pick them up.
We are expecting the pick up date to be Tuesday, December 22nd after school has ended.
If you are interested in participating, please let us know and make announcements at your school so that the students can get involved for a good cause.
Thank you for your time on behalf of the National Honor Society,
Abby Klonsinski
President of Belgrade's National Honor Society
