What's News at Magee?

#3 - December 2018

Am I learning? How do I know?

Our teachers work diligently to understand what learners need and when they need "it". The ultimate goal is for our learners to know what they have mastered and be able to apply it in their daily work and life. Our teachers continue to work to build this self-efficacy in each learner at Magee. It is a powerful experience when a student can look at his/her work and prove their own learning to themselves, a peer, teacher, or parent.

In classrooms throughout Magee you can see students self-assessing their work in a variety of developmental and age appropriate ways. Some may use a self-assessment checklist created specifically for that target or standard. Some may use success criteria either co-created as a group or by the teacher. Self-assessment and success criteria are both oppportunities for classroom discussion of quality work, as well as examination of student work samples. Students need to know and understand what is expected and how to get there. No matter which method students are using, they are able to look at their own work to determine where they are at, what can be improved or what can be celebrated they can make adjustments, seek support, and set a goal for moving forward. This process helps students build skills in reflection, knowledge and confidence that if they are not there YET, they know what to do to get there!

The true power in education is not waiting for someone to bestow the learning; but rather, in creating, constructing, and actively seeking growth in the next steps.

Student Council News

Student Council is really busy working hard to help the Magee Community as well as reaching out in Waukesha County and the United States. They raised funds for animals displaced in Hurricane Michael earlier this year.

Their latest work is adopting a family through the Christmas Clearing Council to provide gifts for three children this holiday season. The collection is currently going and will run through Friday, December 14. Thank you for considering a donation.

Student Council has also planned some fun days for students!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Day - December 21

Inside Out Day - January 18

Fine Arts Day

Thank you to the Magee PTO for your support of Fine Arts Day. This annual Magee tradition is a wonderful day for our students and staff. It would not be possible without the planning and organization put in by Mrs. Gulak ~ thank you!

Thank you to Mike Brickl for THIS video capturing the day!

Layer Up!

Please help students dress in layers for school and to be prepared for recess. It is no secret that Wisconsin weather can be unpredictable! On any given day weather can vary greatly. Student should be bringing a hat, mittens, and probably boots daily. Our blacktop has salt on it most of the winter and is wet quite often. Students need boots AND snowpants to go off of the blacktop when there is snow on the ground. They are outside for 30 minutes - the fresh air is good and they should be dressed to play! Thanks for your help!

Winter Concert

We hope you have January 16 marked on your calendar! It is the evening of our 5K-5th Grade Concert at the KMHS Auditorium at 6:30PM. You might already know, but the theme this year is Disney - we know you will be singing along! Looking forward to seeing you there!
