The end of WW1
The Kaiser abdicated the throne shortly before the first world war. Germany was a republic and the country was a democracy.The German people were feeling the effects of british naval blockades on ports. hunger, starvation and desiease were problams and the economy was damaged with the cost of fighting a war. many belived that a communist revelution was iminent.
Stab in the back myth
Many German soldiers felt they had not been defeated in the first world war as they were still on french soil. Futhermore they felt betrayed by weak polititions, jews and communists back in Germany. the Government was known as the November Criminals and soldiers spread the rumour that they had been stabbed in the back.
