$84.53 was raised from our Donatos Pizza fundraiser. There will be another fundraiser on May 8th. A reminder will be sent closer to the date.
We will be helping host the BCA fall kick-off event. There are several opportunities for parents to get involved. A sign-up genius will be sent in July. Our next meeting is tentatively set for Aug. 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center.

The juniors had a great time on their field trip to MTSU!
The seniors had a blast on their senior reward trip to Soar Adventure Tower! A huge THANK YOU to the generous parents that covered the cost of food and drinks for the senior field trip. We appreciate you!

MTSU Summer Reading

MTSU Library Access This Summer
BCA students will be able to access Walker Library this summer. Those who are enrolled for Dual Enrollment courses with MTSU for fall 2019 will be able to access the databases remotely from their homes. That option is only available for students participating in dual enrollment.
All students will be able to use and check out library materials using their MTSU/Blackman ID or they can use the library as community members. The link for information about community borrowing privileges and borrowing privileges in general are below. Please note that there may be a restriction on the number of items a student may check out at one time. Please also note that they may be charged for printing.

- Freshmen: Honors English I, Honors Biology, and Honors World History or AP Human Geography (must be enrolled in all 3)
- Sophomores: Honors English II, Honors Integrated Math II or Honors Integrated Math III, and Honors Chemistry (must be enrolled in at least 2)

Attendance Matters!
New state law prohibits phone use in school zones
Tennessee enacted a new law beginning in January that prohibits the use of cell phones by drivers in school zones. The new law states: "It is an offense to use a hand-held mobile telephone to make or receive a phone call while driving a motor vehicle in a marked school zone."

Life Experience Opportunity: Rutherford County Relay for Life
Relay for Life will be held on Saturday, June 30th from noon to midnight at the Tennessee Miller Coliseum.
RUTHERFORD WORKS SUMMER CAMPS
For the fourth consecutive year, Rutherford Works is excited to facilitate camps that inspire students to explore careers in growing industry sectors within Rutherford County.
With more than 10,000 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) jobs expected to grow in the next 10 years, your student can get a jump start toward a high wage, high demand career.
These summer camps are available for elementary, middle, and high school students.
No prior experience is needed. Courses are taught by experienced educators from right here in Rutherford County who are passionate about helping students expand their knowledge, understanding, and interests.

Innovation J-Camp for Rising Freshmen
Students who will begin their freshman year in high school in the fall of 2018 are eligible for Innovation J-Camp. Camp will be held July 9-13, 2018 at the Center for Innovation in Media at the College of Media and Entertainment at Middle Tennessee State University. Cost of the camp is $150, lunches included. UTK READING & SPEED READING PROGRAMS
Program for entering 9th-11th graders: May 30-June 27
In these effective and enjoyable programs, your son or daughter will make substantial gains in comprehension and learn to read twice as fast. Students learn the best way to take notes, study for tests, and read fiction, non-fiction, and textbooks. Your student will complete homework more quickly and easily, get better grades, and enjoy reading more.
Program for entering 12th graders: Several schedules available
You will learn to read twice as fast in difficult material, such as textbooks and other challenging non-fiction, and triple your speed in easier reading. The comprehension, concentration, and retention techniques you learn will enable you to save time and get more out of everything you read.

Life Experience
Students must complete 40 hours of real-life experience in the area of his/her major. The experience must be approved by the faculty board. This experience can be completed any year but must be completed by April of the senior year. The experience may or may not be a part of the student’s senior research project. The experience should be meaningful and provide insight into the field of study the student is interested in. If you have already completed one of these classes in school please circle it on the form and write what year you took it.

Experiences to be completed next summer must be submitted no later than May 1, 2017. The application is due 30 days prior to the experience in order to be approved by the committee. All life experience hours must be complete by April of your senior year.
