Well Under Way

The Southside Stingrays are in full swing as we head into this second week of school. I've heard nothing but positive remarks from students, teachers, and parents alike. We truly have something special here at Southside, and we thank you for being a part of it.

Yours in Education,

Ashley Doty

Principal

Duval Charter School at Southside

Arrival

Thank you all for working with the change in arrival. Today, parents who arrived between 7:30 and 7:45 were able to virtually pull right up to drop off their child!

I highly encourage you to arrive in the parking lot by 7:45. Many parents are arriving at 10 til, and are not able to drop off their child so they are in class by 8:00. Please remember that school starts at 8:00, so students need to enter the building by 7:55. Help begin your child's day off to a good start, by arriving in the lot no later than 7:45. Thank you for your cooperation!

THIS WEEK: Open House

Open House is an opportunity to get to know your child's teacher and gain perspective into a day in the life of your child. Come see what your child is already learning at DCSS by sitting in their seat, meeting other families in the class, and hearing from the teacher. You will learn teacher-specific communication methods, grade level expectations, the positive behavior program, and more.

Bonus! Earn a volunteer hour for attending Open House!

K-5th Open House: Tuesday, September 1, 6pm-7pm

6th-7th School Open House: Thursday, September 3, 6pm-7pm

THIS WEEK: 1st PTC Meeting

Our first Parent-Teacher Council meeting is this Thursday, September 3 at 8:15 in the cafeteria. Please drop your child off as normal in the arrival lane, then turn left after going under the canopy to find a parking spot. You will enter through the cafeteria for the meeting. We will be discussing fundraiser opportunities as well as upcoming events.

Please know that students meet for PE in the cafeteria in the morning, so parents, please do not enter the cafe until 8:05.

Bonus! Earn a volunteer hour for attending the PTC Meeting.

Meeting: Thursday, September 3, 8:15am, Cafeteria

The Parent Passport

Research finds that when families get engaged in the school, student success increases exponentially. This is why we ask parents at DCSS to partner with us by volunteering each year (20 hours for 1 child, 30 hours for 2+ children). We will provide opportunities for you each quarter to help you plan your time.

Introducing, the Parent Passport! This handy volunteer calendar can be posted on your fridge so that you and family members can plan out your volunteer opportunities. This can be picked up at the PTC table at any of the orientations, or at the front office.

NEW: One of our gracious parents has created a volunteer spot page to sign up for all the opportunities with one link! You can find all volunteer opportunities at http://tinyurl.com/volunteeratdcss .

Girls on the Run

Our first interest meeting for 3rd-5th grade girls interested in Girls on the Run is this Wednesday, September 2 from 3:00 to 3:30 in Ms. Cella's room, room 234. Meeting is for students only. If your daughter is interested in learning more, encourage her to attend this interest meeting!
