SLE Weekly Update December 10, 2021
Good afternoon East families,
As we approach the final week of school for 2021, we hope you are planning to enjoy some much-needed rest and relaxation over the holiday break. If you are looking for an opportunity to get in the holiday spirit, our band and choir programs will be performing in their Winter Collage concert on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM in the SLEHS theatre. This is always a great way to kick off the season and see our talented musicians at the same time!
Congratulations to our State Honors Choir Students!

Andrea Valenzuela-Lazcano
As a reminder, our student council is hosting an Active Faith Drive through December 16th, and there are still a few items on the Giving Tree that need to be purchased for our families if you are able.
Have a fantastic weekend!

Snapshot of Our Learners District Stakeholder Input Opportunity
This school year our district is working to develop what we will be calling “Snapshot of our Learners.” The purpose of this work is to collaboratively develop a timeless set of inclusive, universal skills and ways of being that unify and define South Lyon Community Schools. In other words, we are developing the compelling “why” that drives all of our work and interactions with students.
The district steering committee has been working with facilitators from Oakland Schools to develop a series of questions we would like to ask of our stakeholders across the district, including district staff and families, to help identify the universal skills and dispositions we would like to include. We will be gathering feedback from our stakeholders through surveys and focus groups and plan to use that input to help develop a final product over the spring of 2022.
We invite you to provide your feedback by taking a few moments to complete this short survey.
Survey Link: https://tinyurl.com/South-Lyon-Stakeholders
The survey will be open from December 9th - 17th. The survey will ask you to rank your choices for several of the questions, which you can do by dragging and reordering the answer choices.
Additionally, the last question of the survey will ask for your input on how the district should best utilize upcoming funding from the Federal government through the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds (ESSER). These funds are provided to districts to help address the ongoing impact of the pandemic.
If you are interested in participating in a focus group session, please look for an interest form that will be sent out right after the new year. Our parent focus group sessions will be held in-person on the following dates/times:
January 11, 2022 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm
January 20, 2022 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm
January 28, 2022 from 10:30 am - 12:00 pm
If we have more interest in these sessions than available slots, we will do a random draw to select participants for each session. We will also be holding focus group sessions for students, staff and business leaders throughout the months of January and February
South Lyon Community Schools will be sending this survey link via email on Monday, December 13th, to all of our secondary students (grades 6-12) so that they also have the opportunity to provide their feedback to our district. The survey is completely voluntary and anonymous. If you do not want your child to participate in the survey, please let your child know.
