Alief ISD Spotlights, Communications and Announcements
Alief ISD middle and high school students received regional honors in the writing category of the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
Alief ISD students brought home 54 Gold Keys, 168 Silver Keys and 341 Honorable Mentions Awards in Writing. Alief ISD brought home more writing awards this year than last school year.
The regional contest is organized by the Harris County Department of Education. HCDE received more than 5,200 writing submissions.
The Elsik High School boys soccer team was spotlighted by KHOU 11's Inside High School Sports.
Alief ISD second grade students received free dental sealants through Project Saving Smiles.
Alief ISD hosted Project Saving Smiles with the City of Houston from January 23-27.
In addition to free dental sealants, 632 students learned about dental hygiene as a part of the visit.
Kerr High School Speech and Debate Tournament Results
Albright Middle School students Ephraim Nwabuko, Sophia Ghebrelul and Trang Trinh won first, second and third place respectively in Novice Congress. Albright student Kelly Van placed second in Novice Prose.
Olle Middle School student Faith Omoruyi won first place in Novice Prose and second place in Novice Poetry.
Elsik High School took home first place sweepstakes, its second in a row after taking the same placement at a recent tournament hosted by Hastings High School. Elsik students Gabriel Ajaegbu and Oluwadara Adebanjo also tied for Best Overall Interpretation.
Hastings High School students won third place Overall Sweepstakes. Caleb Adams won first place in Prose, and Victory Okoroji won first place in Dramatic Interpretation and third place in Poetry.
