Thoughts from Dr. Luis Correa
Learning Recovery Program
District 56 is moving forward with a comprehensive approach to provide support and services for students as a result of the negative impact on learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are referring to this program as the Learning Recovery Program - a six-tiered program that will run through the 2022-2023 school year. District 56 is able to provide these services as a result of federal relief funds provided to public schools (ESSER Funds - Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief).
The Learning Recovery Program includes:
1-1 tutoring - we offered this during the summer of 2021 and plan on doing so again in the summers of 2022 and 2023 as well.
A Jump Start Program - this program was offered this past summer during the month of August and was by invitation.
In-school small group support sessions during the school day - this program is beginning at each of our four buildings.
After school small group support sessions - this program will begin shortly at each of our four buildings and will be by invitation.
Summer school during the summer of 2022.
An online platform that has been made available to all students - this platform is called i-Ready and each student has a login and can begin working on a personalized learning path anytime.
We are also working to mitigate any type of learning loss due to the pandemic by assessing students throughout the course of the school year to determine if they qualify for additional support. Should the availability of the ESSER funds be extended beyond the 2022-23 school year, we will look to extend these services as well.

Tweet of the Week
What's for lunch in October?
Soccer in Physical Education Classes
Students at Spaulding School spent two weeks learning the fundamentals of soccer skills. The skills included dribbling, passing, shooting, playing goalie, and punting. Students then learned how to play a game of soccer against another team while following basic soccer rules.
Super Kids Olympic Games
Classes earning the most super power tickets at Spaulding School during September participated in Super Kids Olympic Games. The first month saw students competing in a noodle relay against another team. Congratulations to all of our students for their outstanding behavior during the first month of school.
Worm Watchers
Mr. Elman and his friends visited Mrs. Carnduff's class during science for a fun lesson on decomposers, nutrients, and the matter cycle! They loved being Worm Watchers and are looking forward to many more science experiments in the future!
