NEW ZION YOUTH CHOIR NOTES

September 12, 2013

Off to a Great Start!!

Hello New Zion Parents & New Zion-

It was good to have such a great, energetic and fun group on Sunday. If you were not with us, we hope to see you this week. Please know everyone makes a difference and we miss you when you are not here.

Thank you to those that give us a heads up when they are not going to be at rehearsal. Many of the youth will text me just to say they will not be at choir that week. This really helps in our planning.

Please notice the calendar below has some additions and some places for you to respond with your intentions. A few things coming up:
  • For those not attending the Launch Retreat we will sing in worship on September 22nd.
  • Please let me know know if you are planning on attending the retreat in October. I am planning on going
  • We hope your entire family, friends, neighbors, etc with join us at A.C.Tion (arts, community, together) on Sunday, September 29th from 5-6 in the CLC. This is an all church event of fun, community and moving. Come join the A.C.Tion and see what it is all about.

Looking forward to being with the youth on Sunday afternoon.

Who Are Our Kids?

"None of our kids are defined by what they do, what they control, what they're good at, or most of the time by what others say (as hard as that last one is). Each child is a beloved individual, created and known by God himself. The concept of identity includes both a personal dimension, as in who I see myself to be as distinct from others, and a communal dimension, as in who I am as connected to others."*

In the book, Sticky Faith, by Kara Powell and Chap Clark, they talk about building "social capital" in your child's life (aka a Sticky Web of Relationships). Giving your child/youth people in their lives that "care for, pray for, mentor and bless your children with their presence over the course of their lives."*

What an opportunity we, the parents and adults of New Zion, have to be that community for our youth and each other. If you are interested in getting to know our parents and their youth and working alongside each other to guide and support the youth, we have a place for you. We will be starting a Sticky Faith Parent group, during the New Zion time, that meets once a month to create these "sticky web's of relationships" with each other. If you are interested in being a part or just seeing what transpires you can contact Dan St. Romain. We are all on this journey together.

New Zion Youth Choir

The New Zion Choir is a group of youth in grades 6-12. They meet weekly to rehearse and socialize as they grow together through music, worship, prayer and friendships. They sing in worship throughout the school year, participate in fundraising projects and serve alongside each other in other service opportunities. Every summer they take a mission trip in July. During this time they sing in churches and nursing homes and find ways to serve the community they are a part of at that time.
This open and welcoming group is for anyone that would like to participate. One does not have to be a member of AHUMC to come and be a part.
