Library Learning
Our K-1 students learned about and reviewed the different parts of a book. They also compared and contrasted fiction and nonfiction literature using two books about pumpkins. This culminated with the students using Seesaw to draw and record at least one fact they learned about pumpkins. The last lesson of the month had to do with digital citizenship. Students listened to the story "Goodnight iPad" and then drew and recorded themselves telling about activities they enjoy doing that do not require the use of technology.
Our 2nd grade students learned how to use the Destiny Library Catalog to place holds on the books they wanted to read. They also started to learn how to narrow their catalog searches by availability and and reading level. To end the month, they learned about one aspect of digital citizenship when they listened to the story "Goodnight iPad" and used Seesaw to draw and record about several things they could do for fun that wouldn't require the use of technology.
Our 3rd-5th grade students learned how to refine their library catalog searches by availability and by reading level. This allows them to find books they like to read at a reading level that is a good fit for them. 4th and 5th grade students were also told about the Battle of the Books competition that will begin soon and encouraged to think about joining the school team. 3rd-5th grade students ended the month by reviewing aspects of digital citizenship that dealt with internet safety and internet behavior. They accomplished this through Kahoot. Kahoot is a game-based learning platform where students complete multiple-choice quizzes about various topics. Students love the competitive nature of this game and it gives us opportunities to address any questions students may have about the topics included in the quizzes.
