Second graders dissect owl pellets! "Owl pellets, owl pellets, owl pellets, a ball of bones, and fur and other things."

New Reporting System
Now that you have had the opportunity to share your child’s progress with his/her teacher, let me re-emphasize the explanation for the indicators (Exceeding, Meeting, Approaching, and Limited Progress). Reporting student progress is a monumental shift in thinking. Please keep in the forefront of your mind that indicators and letter grades report learning differently. Letter grades give global information while indicators give more specific information regarding student achievement. For example an M does not at all indicate “average” or equate to a letter “C”. Meeting means that the learning goal was met. Central Bucks sets incredibly high goals and expectations for students. Meeting these goals takes hard work and is an accomplishment! At the same time, please keep in mind that an Approaching or Limited Progress means that a student has YET to meet the established goal. Students all learn at different rates. Our teachers will continue to provide the very best instruction and support in the classroom so that each student is able to reach his/her highest potential.
In February, the second marking period reporting document will be posted on the Parent Portal. Conferences will not be held to address this document, so we will be counting on parents to view the document on the Portal. You will see many more descriptors for each subject which will give you a very clear picture of your child’s progress toward meeting the grade level benchmarks. If you have not been able to access the Portal, please give us a call (267-893-4300) so that we are able to help you.

Mitten Project - Helping Doyle Families in Need
Staff and students of Doyle Elementary School are again participating in a “Giving Project” - the Mitten Project. Our goal is to provide food and gifts for Doyle families who need extra support.
Since November 17, you find a display of colorful mittens on the wall inside the main entrance of Doyle. Each mitten describes a special gift for a child or adult who is a recipient of the project.
If your family would like to purchase a gift for this project, please stop by Doyle to select a mitten. After you take a mitten, you should buy the gift item listed, wrap it, and attach the mitten to the gift, so that it can be distributed properly.
All gifts need to be brought to Doyle by
Thursday, December 11, 2014.
If your family would rather donate a monetary gift, please make checks payable to the Doyle Elementary School Activity Account. This money will be used to purchase extra food items or other gifts, as needed.
Thank you for your support in making an effort to help members of our Doyle community.
If you have any questions, please call Tracy Kowalchick at 267-893-4335.
Please note that the building does not open until the first bus arrives, approximately at 8:20 AM. Students dropped off before this time will not be allowed to enter the building.
We do our best to have our students out for recess every day even if it is only for 10-15 minutes. Please be sure your children come prepared with coats, hats and mittens (labeled with their names).
Emergency Text Messaging
The Central Bucks School District offers text messaging for emergency school closings, delayed openings, and early dismissals via SMS text messaging to mobile phones.
Regulations require that text messages can only be sent to recipients who have subscribed to receive these messages. Therefore, Central Bucks School District will not send an SMS message to any phone that is not in the list of subscribed phone numbers.
If you would like to receive these text messages, please do the following:
1. Ensure your school has your cell phone number on file. Parents that have completed the Census Verification Forms for their children and provided their cell phone numbers will already have those numbers in our database. Parents can also review the cell phone the school has on file by reviewing their demographic information on the Parent Portal under Family>Family Members.
If the school does not have your cell phone number on file, request that the number be added through your child’s school. Wait at least 24 hours before trying to join.
2. From your cell phone, text the word Join to the number 56360
If our messaging system finds a match for your number in its database, you will receive a confirmation message thanking you for joining School Alerts.
At any time, you can unsubscribe by texting Stop to 56360. Create a contact on your phone for Central Bucks School District or another meaningful name, with the phone number 56360. This will insure you can identify texts coming from Central Bucks School District.
From the Eagle's Beak
"I am proud to be a Doyle student. ... for all the years that I have been here, I have had the best teachers every year. They have all shown me that academic excellence and grit are the most important things in grade school..... The kids that come to Doyle are some of the nicest kids that I've ever met and they will be in my life forever. "
Looking for a holiday gift for a student or teacher? Consider dedicating a book to the Doyle Library! It is a wonderful way to honor or remember someone and support the library at the same time. The librarians can help you select a book, or you can order a favorite family book.
The Book Dedication Program expands the Doyle library and makes someone feel very special.
