ATTENTION 7TH GRADE PARENTS
We will begin screening all 7th grade students the week of September 10th. All 7th graders will have the following screenings: vision, hearing, height/weight, blood pressure and acanthosis nigricans. In addition, all girls will have spinal screenings.
The purpose of spinal screening is to detect the signs of abnormal curves of the spine at their earliest stages so that the need for treatment can be determined. Due to changes in Texas screening laws, now all girls in 5th and 7th grades and boys in 8th grade are required to be screened. Exceptions to this are exemption for religious reasons or the student being under the care of a physician for scoliosis. Submission of a written affidavit of exemption or the results of a professional examination must be submitted to the school nurse for your student to be exempt from screening.
Screenings will be performed during non-core classes whenever possible. Also, note that it is beneficial for girls to have a tank top or sports bra available during screening.

PRINCIPAL'S STUDENT ADVISORY COMMITTEE
These student have been selected to participate on the Principal's Student Advisory Committee this year at Bedford Junior High. The objective of this committee is to act as a barometer for student perception of BJH. These students will meet periodically with Mr. Martinak, Principal, or other campus administrators, to discuss action items, new initiatives, address current issues and/or needs on the campus, etc. In addition, Mr. Chapman, Superintendent of HEB ISD, will visit on occasion with this group of students so they may interact with senior leadership. We are excited about this new group of students and eager to hear their ideas to improve their school.
BRONCO THEATRE AUDITIONS SEPTEMBER 13TH
FROM MS. CAVAZOS
Bronco Theatre will be holding auditions for its second production of the year, "To Kill a Mockingbird", Thursday September 13 from 3:30-5:30 in G102 before open house.
This year we will be taking this production to our U.I.L. One Act Play competition in Irving, TX. One Act Play is a prestigious theatre competition that requires hard work, dedication, and a passion for theatre arts. While this opportunity is open to all students on campus, not just those in a theatre class, we are limited to how many students compete.
To help your child prepare for the auditions you can go to Ms. Cavazos' theatre staff site, under the shows tab and practice the monologue for your gender. One Act Play is an amazing opportunity for your student to grow and explore a more hands on theatre making experience and I hope to see alot of faces in the theatre room on Thursday!
MATH STUDENTS ENJOY SCIENTIFIC NOTATION ACTIVITY
Mrs. Shaw’s math class takes a break from the classroom to participate in a scientific notation loop where one stations answer leads you to the next station. Students practiced converting numbers between scientific and standard notation. Everyone enjoyed getting some fresh air and using their new calculator skills to help them solve questions faster.
