Magnesium is a metal and is number 12 on the periodic table. Magnesium has 12 protons, 12 neutrons, 12 electrons, and 2 valence electrons. It has a mass of 24 amu. Magnesium is an element in a very reactive group named the Alkaline Earth Metals (group 2). Magnesium is apart of the second most reactive group on the periodic table. Magnesium has a luster, is malleable, ductile,and are great conductors. It violently reacts to nitrogen, phosphorous, chlorine, sulfur, bromine, iodine, fluorine, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitric oxcide.
