Principal's Message to Hornet Families for the week of May 30th, 2021

Happy Sunday fantastic family members,

I hope everyone is enjoying this 3 day weekend but also mindful of the reason this weekend exists. For many years soldiers have fought and died for our freedom, for that I am grateful and intentional about honoring their sacrifice at this time each year. To my knowledge, the moment of remembrance is at 3p on Monday. Please take this time to enjoy your family and remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. I can't believe we have finally made it to the final week of the 2020-2021 school year. This year has been interesting, wild, and at times crazy but we made it. Our scholars have persevered and shown grit in the face of adversity. I have full confidence that all of scholars are ready to move to the next level of greatness in their educational careers. The Hornet staff and I will take this summer to continue growing and learning so we can continue creating a G.R.E.A.T learning experience for the Kealing Community. Thank you for your support and have a great summer! #BEGREATmentality.

Kealing Volleyball and Football Interest Form

Hey Hornets, as we wrap up this school year we are looking to the start of next year. We need to start getting an idea of who is interested in playing Volleyball or Football for Kealing next year as 7th and 8th graders. Please complete the Google Form so we will be able to contact you with information about these sports. Practice starts the first week of school for both sports, so it is important that we get this info out over the summer. If you have questions, please complete the form and a coach will contact you to answer those questions.

Yearbook Update

June 4th | Yearbooks will be distributed during the morning of June 4th in front of the school from 10-12. We will also be distributing summer reading, 8th grade t-shirts, PTA swag, and awards during that time.

Please DO NOT attempt to get your book before 7:45 as the front of the school is reserved for our busses. We will not be distributing books before 7:45. Please use this date only if you absolutely cannot make the Friday, June 4th date.

If your student did not get to pick up his/her/their yearbook on Friday, May 28th, your student can pick up the yearbook on Wednesday, June 2nd throughout the day in room 236.

AISD Student Chromebooks

After students started virtual learning in March of 2020, many families picked up Chromebooks from various AISD technology distributions sites, such as Crockett HS or the PAC. Any district devices you have that are not being used or are no longer needed can be returned to Kealing’s main office or library anytime during the school day up to June 3rd or during our distribution day on June 4th. For any Chromebooks you return, please include the charger and have the student’s name and ID number taped to the equipment so that it can be checked in and removed from your student’s record. 8th graders will be taking their district Chromebooks with them to high school. If you are planning to leave AISD please be sure to return any devices belonging to the district to the main office by June 3rd.
Any students, 8th graders included, who were issued either the older Dell 11 Chromebooks or the Toshiba Chromebooks are asked to bring them to the main office or library so that we can exchange them for different models for when the student returns to school after summer break. Again, please be sure to include the charger and have your student’s name and ID number taped to the equipment. This should be done during the school day up to June 3rd or on the distribution day on the 4th.
If you have any questions, please e-mail Kealing’s librarian and student device manager at Kerensa.Williams@austinisd.org

For students participating in remote, off-campus learning, free 7 day meal packs will be available each Thursday at more than 40 curbside locations throughout Austin. Austin ISD COVID-19 Dashboard

Austin ISD is committed to putting health and safety protocols in place that will prevent the occurrence and/or spread of COVID-19. However, we must be prepared to quickly and effectively respond to and communicate a lab-confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 at a school or other Austin ISD facility.

The Austin ISD COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated by noon each Tuesday, starting the week of Sept. 21. All lab-confirmed positive cases on campuses will be communicated directly to the campus community. Individuals who may have been exposed will be contacted directly and provided information on the next steps, including a quarantine timeline if needed.
