Canvas Quizzes
In this SMORE, we will discuss quiz tips to ace your next Canvas quiz and provide you with training and go-to resources. Canvas Quizzes (denoted by a rocket ship icon) can be used for practice tests, high-stakes exams and even for a quick survey. Quizzes are useful to identify areas for improvement, learning achievements and successes! If you are new to quizzes, review the Canvas Guide and download the app (video ⏰ 4:32). Scroll down to learn some handy tips from Academic Technology Services.
📌 TIPS: Before You Begin a Graded Quiz!
- Select a quiet location with uninterrupted internet connectivity. (🚫 Starbucks)
- Connect to a network in advance via wifi or ethernet port (Run a speedtest).
- Plan to use New York Tech wifi? Click on this link to learn more!
- Opt for a desktop or fully charged laptop with a chord (just in case!)
- Make sure to use a Canvas supported web browser.
📌 TIPS: Taking Quizzes in Canvas
- Read the directions carefully!
- Keep an eye on the time! ⏰. A "Time Running" box will appear on the margin of your screen automatically (under the Questions list). You can hide the Time Running window, if that stresses you out! (Here is a quick video ⏰ 6:40) for strategies to conquer online test anxiety.
- Canvas Quizzes will auto-submit at the end of the allotted time!
- The point value of each question will show in the top corner once you begin the question(s).
- Canvas Quizzes will save automatically, so even if you inadvertently get bounced out for some reason, your work will be there!
- While Canvas App is super useful on the go...🚫 it is not recommended you take Quizzes on the mobile Canvas app.

Did you know Canvas offers two types of quizzes? Classic Quizzes (⏰ 2:39) and the newer version simply called New Quizzes. (⏰ 2:43). Learn about each in the below ↴ quick videos.
