NO SCHOOL MONDAY, APRIL 10!!
Don't forget that there is no school on Monday!
MESSAGE FROM MS. ESSEX
Hello Atkinson Families!
It's hard to believe, but we have made it to the end of 3rd quarter. Monday is a teacher workday for educators to prepare report cards. Report cards will be coming home in backpacks or mailed on Monday, April 17.
Although Monday is a teacher workday, there will still be a virtual PTA meeting on Monday evening from 6:30-8:00. If you are able to join, even if just for a few minutes, please log into this ZOOM link.
THANK YOU to everyone for your generous contributions to our Food Drive. Our counselors and leadership team have been busy organizing and preparing boxes of food staples to share with community members in need. Your giving has made a difference!
The upcoming week is Darcy Wilde's last one with us! Darcy has played an integral role in the Atkinson community while she stepped in for Lilly Williams and we will miss her. If you see her around, please thank her for her amazing work. In addition, be sure to welcome Lilly Williams back. We have missed her and are excited for her return.
Last, I would like to thank everyone who was able to make it to my presentation on staffing and fundraising Tuesday evening. If you were unable to attend, I have linked the slides HERE. I tried to record the meeting, but it didn't seem to work. I'm sorry about that. Please reach out if you have any questions: bessex@pps.net, or add your questions to the Padlet shared in the slide show.
Thank you,
Beth Essex
Interim Principal
RUN FOR ATKINSON!!!!
We are excited to announce that our annual Run for Atkinson is coming up on Friday, April 21! We will be running on the Franklin track. Kindergarteners - 2nd graders will run from 9:15-10:00am. 3rd - 5th graders will run from 10:15-11:00am. We love volunteers, spectators, and cheerleaders! Please come out to support our Atkinson cheetahs as they run hard to raise money for our school.
The money we collect from Run for Atkinson provides artists in residences, assemblies, art supplies, and many more fun and special activities. For example, this year, each grade has, or will, participate in a special art experience with a visiting artist. Many of the grades have chosen to do dancing and movement - so keep a look out for fancy footwork around your house!
The Run for Atkinson is our biggest, schoolwide fundraiser of the year. Pledge sheets will be coming home with your student today. You can use the pledge sheet, or use the link you find there to donate.
We hope that you will join us in whatever capacity you can. Thank you for your support!

HeART of Portland: A Portland Public Schools K-12 Arts Showcase
This event serves as a thank you to Portland taxpayers for supporting the Arts Education & Access Fund (Arts Tax) in our schools.
This year we celebrate Native American art and culture alongside the Portland Art Museum’s exhibitions Dakota Modern: The Art of Oscar Howe and Jeffrey Gibson: They Come From Fire. PPS visual arts students across the district responded to this exhibition through a collaborative project. This project, in addition to one separate representative piece of work from each school, will be displayed in Portland Art Museum’s Miller Gallery from April 11th through April 23rd.
PPS performing arts students will showcase their talents as well for the HeART of Portland Opening Reception on Tuesday, April 11th at 6:30 PM. Additionally, this will be the debut performance of the first-ever PPS Latinx Affinity Community Choir and the public launch of our Master Arts Education Plan. This event and all exhibitions at the museum are free to all PPS students and families.
Atkinson will be represented by Lou Browning (4th Grade) who will be showcasing their artwork from the 4th grade drawing project - "Words Have Power"!
