South Garland Arke
Family Communication of South Garland High School
Principal's Blurb
I pray that each of you enjoyed some of this great weather on Saturday and that you rested on the rainy Sunday!
I want to first give thanks to the FABULOUS AP Testing team. Parents, many of you may not know this but we have had some of the highest participation rates- in most content areas- than any other high school! Kudos to this team! Secondly, we have an AMAZING group of team members who are our superheroes outside of the classroom- the SGHS Support Staff. We all know that our work could be almost next to impossible without them! Please access this link to see more!!
SENIOR PROGRESS
Each week, we are making strides towards decreasing the number of seniors not on track to graduate. Together, we ARE making a difference but we still have more work to achieve. The home visits, extended learning opportunities, encouraging phone calls home, individual teacher-led recovery interventions and student motivation strategies are all greatly appreciated!!! As a community, I need your help to encourage all of our students to take advantage of our multiple intervention methods designed to help students recover grading cycles. Staying connected with your child’s teachers is critical. Let’s continue to move this needle forward towards more progress.
STAAR/EOC 2nd Administration is HERE:
Our school demonstrated what team work, resiliency, and dedication to student success could achieve during our 1st STAAR administration and more recently- AP Examination. We MUST commit that same amount, if not more, of energy and determination this week. For some of our scholars, this will be their first time to take a state assessment since spring 2019! For others, this could be the turning point of a major comeback from a previous administration. With that said, our scholars are feeling the pressure of passing the exam. Please continue to encourage your child as often and as best you can. I am charging us as a staff, family, and beacon of hope to make certain that all of our scholars are afforded every opportunity by us to feel appreciated, supported, and emboldened. The nervousness, test anxiety, and sheer thought of failing is enough for them to contend with. We can’t take the test for them but we sure could shower them with our unswerving support. Just like before, let's plan to accomplish victory in participation and achievement. Getting a night’s sleep, eating a good breakfast, and arriving at school no later than 7:00am are essential!
ALMOST THERE!!!
We are closing out the year stronger each day! We had several recognition's of our faculty and students during the past two weeks! Lastly, I’d like to recognize YOU! I am very mindful that these continue to be unsettling and difficult times for students, staff and parents in spite of the encouraging news lately. However, through working together so positively over these past several weeks we have demonstrated just how much can be achieved within such a cohesive, assured, caring and supportive community such as ours, and from this we should continue to yield much strength.
Have a great week and thanks for all that you do!
