Staying Healthy: CUSD's response to the coronavirus

A joint effort is needed to reduce the spread of illness in our schools, including Coronavirus (COVID-19). Alicia King, our District Nurse, sent families a detailed and informative email on the topic just yesterday. Staff, students and parents are encouraged to follow the best practices listed below so that all of us remain healthy and protected from common and more serious illnesses. Around campus we have added a number of posters to encourage handwashing and "covering your cough." We will also be adding a hand sanitizer dispenser in our cafeteria.

The CDC and Public Health recommend that we:

  • wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not on hand.
  • avoid touching our eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands
  • avoid close contact, like kissing and sharing cups or utensils, with people who are sick
  • Get a flu shot if you have not done so already.

If you or a child develops cold or flu-like symptoms, you can help protect others by:

  • staying home while you are sick, especially if you have a fever
  • avoiding close contact with others
  • covering mouth and nose with and elbow or tissue (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing, then throwing the tissue in the trash and washing hands
  • cleaning and disinfecting objects and surfaces

Coronavirus information will continue to be shared in District emails and posted on the District website. CUSD staff will remain in close communication with the Public Health Department and LA County Office of Education. If the school district were impacted by a pandemic, we would be guided by the Public Health Department regarding student exclusions, quarantines, and school closures.

Understanding Conflict at School

In January, we offered a parent information night titled, "Understanding Conflict at School." The presentation's powerpoint is now available with voiceover for added detail. You can find it under the Resource tab on our website:
