Sharing Second Grade
A Peek at Our Week
January 16, 2018
MATH:
2.2 - This week students will continue practicing how to tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest 5 minutes, using AM and PM. Students will also generate measurement data by measuring lengths of several objects and create a line plot to show the measurements. Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts at home!
3.1 - We're starting our first 3rd grade unit. It will focus on place value to the thousands, rounding to the tens and hundreds, properties, bar and picture graphs and line plots. Please open the link for more in depth information about the unit https://www.georgiastandards.org/Georgia-Standards/Frameworks/Unit-1-3rd-grade-parent-letter.pdf. Continue to practice math facts and RedBird for 30-minutes per week.
3.2 - This semester we began a new unit. Students are learning to solve two-step word problems using the four operations. They are writing and solving equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity. Keep practicing addition and subtraction facts!
READING:
We are beginning an exciting new unit which focuses on three aspects of reading: fluency, literary language, and tracking longer stories. During the next couple of weeks our students will practice reading at a just-right pace. For many students this will mean picking up the pace, and doing so in ways that improve comprehension.
WRITING:
We are also starting a fun new unit on poetry! Our students will discover how poems differ from stories as they pay special attention to sound and experiment with line breaks.
