FROM THE DESK OF THE SUPERINTENDENT
Welcome Back, Parents!
We are off and running with three weeks and two days of school already in the books. Our “flash-flood” caught us all off guard with the bus barn lot under water and several country roads under water and not accessible. We appreciate your patience with our decision to cancel school. Please note that this day will be made up on Thursday, May 17th. We have our fingers crossed for another mild winter and if we do not have to make up any more days due to inclement weather, May 17th will be the last day of school.
As the new school year starts, the Clinton School District will embark on creating a new 5-year strategic improvement plan. There will be a parent/community member focus group meeting in late September and we desire as much input as possible. If this is something you would like to participate in, please contact myself or Communications Director Angie Lawson at alawson@clintoncardinals.org. We would love to have you!
In 2017-18, I encourage you to be as involved as you can with your student’s learning. Make frequent contact with your student’s teacher or teachers and ask what the students are learning. Keep up on your learner’s progress and ask what you can do at home to support their learning. We want you involved!
As always, you can call central office at (660) 885-2237, stop by central office, or email me at awillard@clintoncardinals.org if you have any questions or concerns.
Very Respectfully,
Adam Willard
Superintendent
“It’s a Great Day to Be a Cardinal!”
PARENT REMINDERS AND IMPORTANT INFO
Feedback Wanted-The Clinton School District is building a new strategic plan to focus and guide our work over the next 5 years.

A community member and parent focus group will be held on September 28th from 5:30-6:30 in the Clinton High School media center (you do not have to be a parent of a CSD student to participate).
If you would like to participate, please contact Angie Lawson at alawson@clintoncardinals.org.
Thank you in advance for your interest and help as we begin this important work.

IT'S A GREAT DAY TO BE A CARDINAL ARTICLE
Homecoming, A Time Honored Tradition
Submitted by Jarrod Steffens, Clinton High School Principal
Homecoming week is just around the corner and students at CHS and around the district are excited to partner with the community in celebrating this special time of the year.
Here is what you need to know about Homecoming 2017:
Clinton High School will celebrate Homecoming week September 11th-15th with spirit days and activities throughout the week. CHS invites all community members to get involved by participating in spirit days, decorating your home or office, and coming to the parade and coronation events on Friday.
2017 Homecoming Theme- Disney
Spirit Days
Monday 9/11- Pajama Day (Sleeping Beauties)
Tuesday 9/12- Twin Day (Chip n Dale)
Wednesday 9/13- Hawaiian Day (Lilo and Stitch)
Thursday 9/14- Disney Day (Dress as your favorite character)
Friday 9/15- Homecoming Day (House of Mouse- School Colors)
CHS Band, Cheerleaders, Poms and student-athletes will March the Halls at all district buildings on Friday Morning. Students follow the drumline through each building where it will be lined with young Cardinal fans in hopes of creating even more excitement around the day.
CHS students will participate in a Homecoming Pep Assembly on Friday just before the parade. Students sit by grade level, participate in activities and hear from fall activities representatives before being dismissed to watch the parade.
The homecoming parade will be at 1:30pm on Friday. The parade route will start at the corner of Bodine and 8th st., head south to Clinton st. The route will then take Clinton St to 3rd to Franklin toward the Clinton Square. The parade will wind around the Square and conclude in front of the Chamber of Commerce. Community members are encouraged to come watch along the parade route.
Coronation will take place at halftime of the football game on Friday the 15th versus the visiting Warrensburg Tigers. King, Queen, Class Nominees and Wee King/Queen candidates were voted on by students and have been narrowed down to those who will be presented at the football game.
Homecoming week is a special week in Clinton and we hope the community will come together and once again help celebrate this time honored tradition.
BRIGHT FUTURES NEWS
Bright Futures Days-Don't forget about our monthly Bright Futures days! On the 2nd Wednesday of every month we ask school staff, community members, families, and students to spread the word about Bright Futures by wearing a Bright Futures shirt or other bright shirt. Bright Futures shirts can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce office for $10.
Classroom Partners-Bright Futures Clinton is currently looking for 5 businesses, organizations, Sunday School classes, etc. to partner with classes at Henry Elementary this school year. This requires NO financial commitment....only a commitment of time to a class of students and their teacher. This has been a very successful and rewarding program for 2 years. If you or your business/organization are curious to learn more, please reach out to Angie Lawson (alawson@clintoncardinals.org).
Lending Libraries-Don't forget about the Lending Libraries located at all 3 of our community's housing complexes. The Lending Libraries are small wooden structures that contain donated books that we are encouraging our students to read. Any of our community's children can access this resource at any time! Books do not have to be returned.
