On Friday, we recognized a large number of students awarded with Sawyer Stars and several with the Golden Eagle Awards. Students, parents, and staff can nominate anyone in the Florence Sawyer School community for a Sawyer Star as a way of acknowledging the small everyday kindnesses that contribute so much to our positive school culture.

Tomorrow, we encourage students and staff to wear red or Red Sox gear for Red Sox Spirit Day! As always, this event is completely voluntary. All teams are supported at FSS, even the Yankees.
This Thursday morning, our Student Council, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Nashoba Valley, will host our Annual Purple Pinkie Day! Purple Pinkie Day was established by Rotary International to raise awareness of and to combat polio in the remaining countries where it has not yet been eradicated. Students who choose to donate a dollar (roughly the cost of a shot) on Thursday morning can have their pinkie painted purple. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation doubles every donation for Purple Pinkie Day.
Providence Bruins game: Tickets are still available to attend the October 28th Providence Bruins game! Students in 4th-8th grade are invited to sing the National Anthem, but all Sawyer families are welcome to watch. Families whose orders are submitted after the original deadline will be able to pick up their tickets on the day of the game. For details on ordering tickets, please visit Mrs. Frederick’s website.
Sawyer School Staff invites you to dine with us and more at our annual Pasta pARTy scholarship fundraiser. Enjoy a delicious meal prepared and served by your child’s teachers. This year’s dinner, art show, musical display and craft sale will be Thursday, November 15th. Order your tickets now using this link...November 15, 2018 Pasta pARTy ticket form

Pick-A-Time will close for appointments on Wednesday, October 24 at 11:59 pm. Conferences are on October 26 or November 5. We have created a letter which reviews the steps for using Pick-A-Time. It is located in the Virtual Backpack and you can find the link to it here. FSS Pick-A-Time Instructions You can access Pick-A Time at the following link FSS Pick-A-Time 2018 Fall Conferences .
We are seeking Parent Volunteers to assist with our brand new Book Room in the Sawyer wing! As part of our new district-wide literacy initiative, our staff has spent hours sorting through and organizing our collection of books. The book room will be open to all teachers, thus giving every student access to a huge selection of wonderful books to read every day. Now that we're organized, we'd love your help to get it all up and running! Tasks that still need to be completed are: laminating bin labels, applying stickers to books and bookshelves, and (the most daunting task of all!) inventorying our huge collection of books. If you have a few free hours, and, especially if you have experience typing and using Google Sheets/Excel, we would love your help! Please sign up here, or reach out to one of our literacy specialists to get more information: Katie Saloisemail@example.com, Liz Westfirstname.lastname@example.org, or Genie Collinsemail@example.com. Thank you in advance to our wonderful Sawyer parents!

Your kids and their art teachers have done their part and now all the fabulous artwork is on its way to Square 1 where it can be printed onto any number of cool products.
