We are grateful for your partnership! The experiences at Saunders will prepare students for their roles as a learner, a future employee, and a contributing citizen in an ever-changing and global society. I invite you to join us for Back to School Night Tuesday, October 30 from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. You will have the opportunity to experience Concept of Word, Word Study, and Number Talks. Our goal is to strengthen every child's literacy superpowers, mathematics superpowers, and make a year's worth of progress! October is Bully Prevention Month!

October is packed with activities showing our Spartan Spirit! Students are remembering bully prevention awareness, where we "stomp out bullying", Red Ribbon Week, where we celebrate being drug-free, and remembering to always be kind through Random Acts of Kindness!

World Bully Prevention Awareness Day kick starts our Bully Prevention Month!

Spartan teachers and students alike wore blue to show that we stand up against bullying on October 1st, World Day for Bullying Prevention Awareness. Be sure to check out our many bully prevention awareness activities listed by day on the orange calendar that came home with your student or check out the calendar above! #blueup

Spartan Spirit Fundraiser

Our student advisors from the SCA designed our new Spartan Spirit t-shirt and sweatshirt. Students, parents, grandparents, teachers, and staff can show off their school spirit! Order online through our Saunders e-shop or by completing the order form below. The deadline to order is November 5, 2018.

Walk to School Day

Walk to School Day is Wednesday, October 10, 2018. If you live within walking distance, please consider walking your child to school that day. If you are normally a car rider, please consider dropping your child off on Longmeadow Dr. between 8:40 a.m.-9:00 a.m. so your child can participate.

PTA Reflections Contest

Do you enjoy art, music and dance or have an interest in writing, producing films and taking photos? Then join us and have fun unleashing your inner artist with PTA Reflections! This year's theme, "Heroes Around Me," calls for your own unique interpretation through the arts. Submission guidelines and entry form will be coming home. All entries are due by October 31, 2018.

Aeronautical Design Challenge!

On the last Friday of the month, Mrs. Marushia's 5th-grade class tested their paper airplanes to see if it flew better than the control plane. Prior to testing, each student designed their plane and set up their experiment using the scientific process. While testing it out each student was looking at the qualitative and quantitative data to determine how well it flew.

The Week of Inspirational Math introduces our students to the idea that there are multiple strategies to solving a problem or question.

Foiled Again!


Fifth graders love a good challenge! Students in 5th grade completed the STEM design challenge where they constructed and tested a cargo ship made of only tin foil. Students learned about the different designs and came up with ideas of how to make their boat float and hold the most cargo in the class.

Second Graders from Mrs. Guimond's class can find many comfy spaces and places in their room for independent reading!

Second Graders Can Build Robots!

Ms. Bammel’s 2nd-grade class worked with support from Mrs. Floyd on a STEM activity using the LEGO WeDo 2.0 and Apple iPads. The students did an amazing job building Milo the Science Rover Robot by following the directions provided on the app. Students worked together in pairs to continue building their teamwork skills and classroom community relationships. #21stcenturylearning

Jamestown Visits Second Graders at Saunders!

Ms. Engler's and Ms. Rouleau's second-grade Dual Language classes were excited to have a Jamestown interpreter to visit them here at Saunders. Students learned about how the Eastern Woodland Indians adapted to their environment. They were able to interact with the artifacts and costume pieces from Jamestown during their lesson! Second graders are looking forward to learning much more on their field trip to Jamestown on Oct 10th about where and how they lived as well as many more interesting facts.

Dewey Decimal!

Mrs. Ludy and Mrs. Shull's library students are learning about the Dewey Decimal System so that they will be able to find the subjects they want to read about in the Learning Commons and know where to look for them on the shelves!
