Sedimentary Rocks
Are types of rock that are formed by the deposition of material at the Earth's surface and within bodies of water.
Sedimentation
Is the collective name for processes that cause mineral and/or organic particles to settle and accumalate or minerals to precipate from a solution.
Compaction
Is the process of applying energy to loose soil to consolidate it and remove any voids, thereby increasing the density and consequently its load-bearing capacity.
Cementation
The binding together of particals or other things by cement.
Sedimentation
The river transports bits of rock, and deposits them on the bottom of the river bed.
Compaction
Deposited rocks build up in layers, and the weight of the top layers compress the bottom layers.
Cementation
The compression squeezes out water, leaving salt crystals that cement the rocks together.
