The Lion's Den Specials' Edition
Everything you need to know from the specials team!
Hello Lincoln families! I’m Molly Naples, the full-time art teacher at Lincoln. I’m so excited to teach your children this year. This is my 10th year at Lincoln and my 14th year teaching visual arts. I feel very fortunate to work in a community that values the importance of arts education and its role in student learning. Over my 14 years of teaching, I strive to create a safe, positive learning environment suited for a diverse array of learners. My curriculum varies year to year, and I try to stay fresh so the art projects feel relevant and meaningful to our students. My goal is for all students to feel successful during their time with me.
For the 2019/2020 school year, I am splitting most grades (with the exception of fifth) with the new traveling art teacher Ms. Carr. She will be teaching all of her art classes in the new STEAM room (no more mini gym! Yay!). We are really excited to host art events, art shows, and decorate the school for the Holiday Sing. This year we will be collaborating with Tracy VanDuinen a mosaic artist and art teacher at OPRF and the Oak Park Education Foundation to create a mosaic mural on the outside of Lincoln. By the summer of 2020, all D97 elementary schools will have a cohesive mosaic to celebrate our students and the D97 community. This is all thanks to our friends at the Oak Park Education Foundation who are funding this amazing project. Thank you OPEF!
Speaking of thank you’s, I would like to thank you all for your generosity contributing to the art supply list. I know these lists get expensive, but all of those materials go to great use over and over again. I am always in need of recycled goods such as plastic shopping bags, plastic water/soda bottles, cereal boxes, shoe boxes, and newspaper. I do not need paper bags or egg cartons at the moment. Feel free to send your kids with those items as you finish them up. I will graciously accept!
Please email me at mnaples@op97.org any time for introductions, questions, comments, and concerns. I know many parents work in the arts throughout the Chicago area. I would love to know what you do and the chance to have real life creatives come in to talk to the kids. Thank you! I look forward to another great year at Lincoln.
Band will be starting soon!
