Principal's Corner
The weeks are flying by and before we know, it will be summer break. There are many things taking place at this time and I encourage staff to reach out and communicate any questions or concerns you may have as we prepare to close out our year. Please review the heads up information below. Have a great week!
Heads-Up
4th Quarter Differentiation Plans (AP Teachers)
Please review the email sent by Ms. Susan Jackson. Submit your differentiated lesson plan, form and student example for 4th quarter or any quarters missed. This work will be reviewed in the next couple of weeks. See Ms. Jackson if you have additional questions.
Upcoming Student Email Changes (Mr. Travis Taylor)
LRSD will be making changes to student email addresses prior to the start of the next school year. Please see the language shared by Mr. Taylor about the changes that are coming.
The current naming convention for our student emails has become unmanageable and will need to change before school starts in the fall. Because of the length of some usernames and/or duplicate accounts, we need to change the username convention from (firstname.lastname123) to making the student ID their username and part of their email address. This will make accessing student email accounts and Google accounts much easier for students. Changing this information now before students leave for the summer will save time and frustration attempting to communicate this over the summer or right before the start of school in fall. The new email address format will be 123456@students.lrsd.org and their username will be their ID number. This will align student user accounts with existing programs and allow us to better address the needs of our digital curriculum. A meeting will be held on details to assist classroom teachers on May 6th.The first process will begin on Friday, May 10th in the afternoon and continue through afternoon on Monday, May, 13th. May 14th- 17th- We will have the classrooms to verify that students can access their accounts.
Attendance
As we are wrapping up, let’s make sure that we are communicating with each other about student attendance and whereabouts. If students are on field-trips, that information should be communicated properly, so we can mark students accurately. We also need to make sure attendance is corrected when students show up tardy to class.
Nurse -Communication
A list of students who are still deficient in providing proof of immunizations was shared by Nurse Sturges on May 3rd. Please go back and review the list. She will update this list on Monday. Students on the list should be sent to her office as she has been working hard to communicate to parents and provide resources on updating student health needs. Thanks for your support.
Thanks,
Yaa Appiah-McNulty
Wagon Wheel Strategy
- Based on the articles or real life problems you want the students to discuss, create 4 questions about the topic to explore.
- Depending on the number of students, place an equal amount of chairs in the center of the wheel back-to-back and the same amount of chairs on the outside of the wheel facing the chairs in the center.
- Before students get into the wheel, have them read the article or the real-life scenario.
- Have students fill in the seats in the wheel. Provide them with a note taking form to write their ideas as well as their partners.
- The students on the outside of the wheel will be moving one seat to the right at each rotation; students on the inside will remain in their seats.
- Explain that they will be discussing the questions with each partner for about 10 minutes.
- Have students begin the discussion with their first partner. Have participants in the outside rotate every 10 minutes.
- Once the students in the outside wheel return to their first partner, stop the rotation and bring them back to the whole group. Ask them to write to summarize their discussions from the wagon wheel.
- Have a whole group discussion about the topic and the questions explored during the wagon wheel.
