Two Parent Training Updates!
#1 Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Successful Families will be offered one more time during this school year!

SO....Kimberly Baumgardner will present a session, "Help! School's Out! How do I Keep My Child Learning During the Summer?"
This session will help you learn ideas on how you can help keep your child learning during the summer in a fun, engaging way. Activities will be shared on things you can do as a family that are fun, inexpensive, and will help your child avoid the learning slump that usually occurs during the summer. A summer resource guide will be provided.

Bus Tour hosted by ARC of San Antonio of Local Agencies that Support Students with Special Needs
Come ride with us as we take a tour of several local agencies, facilities, and group homes that support students with special needs after they leave public school. We will spend 20-25 minutes at each location. Bus will leave ESC-20 at 9 AM. Please meet in an assigned room at 8:30 a.m. for a brief discussion of the day. The bus will make a stop for lunch and lunch will be on your own. The bus will return to ESC-20 by 2:30 p.m.

School's Out! How do I Keep my Child Learning During the Summer?

Fostering the Social and Emotional Development of Gifted Children*
Although advanced in many ways, gifted children can often be in danger of learning the least in school because of their unique needs. In this interactive training, you will learn about social characteristics of gifted children and how you can contribute to the effective education of your child. We will explore strategies to identify behaviors that will be crucial to your child’s teacher providing a better learning environment for your child. You will also learn practices that you can use at home to nurture the curiosity and creativity of your child. *This session will address also address the Gifted English language learner (Bilingual child).

Play With Me: I’m Learning!
All children love to play! Did you know it is one of the most important things you can do with your child? PLAY = LEARNING in the early years! This session will focus on the importance of play in your child’s early education and how success in school depends on PLAY. Plan to spend the day learning while you PLAY! * Each participant will receive a Play = Learning Kit to use with your child at home.*

RtI & Section 504
Parenting is one of those jobs that doesn’t come with an instruction manual, but we are here to help educate you! In order for parents to have the knowledge, skills and confidence to work together as partners with our educators, parents must have the information to empower them. This training will provide parents and community members with information about what promotes student success through the RtI and Section 504 process. Please join us to learn how both of these services can help qualifying students receive support to help them reach success in their areas of need.

2018 LULAC Parent/Child Scholarship
This scholarship is for student parents to apply for a great opportunity to secure TWO YEARS of free tuition for their child to attend any Alamo College.
This is a scholarship for students attending or planning to attend any of the Alamo Colleges during the fall 2018 semester:
Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, San Antonio College and St. Philip’s College.

Project Access is a unique program offered to individuals with documented intellectual disabilities. It is designed to support the student to access postsecondary education developing skills for
gainful employment. Curriculum completion is dependent on the
student’s ability to complete the courses in a semester.

Summer Food Service Program Helps Children Stay Active, Healthy
Summer meal sites offer nutritious meals at no cost for children 18 years old and younger.
Use these three tools from June 1-August 30 to find a summer meal site in Texas:
• Dial 2-1-1 to speak to a live operator
• Visit www.SummerFood.org for an interactive site locator map
• Text FOODTX or COMIDA to 877-877
Sites can be found at locations such as recreation centers, parks, community areas,
apartment communities, and church facilities.
Many sites offer enriching activities and serve various combinations of meals including
breakfast, lunch, snacks and even supper.
