Gladstone groups join forces to share holiday joy
Continuing a decades old tradition, Gladstone’s Adopt-a-Family effort is helping 58 local families have a brighter holiday season. The project’s 11 partner groups will deliver a holiday meal, toys for children, and gifts for teens the morning of December 17.
“With high inflation and steep rent increases, these are tough times for many families,” said project coordinator Leslie Robinette. “It’s a delight to see so many Gladstone organizations come together to bring these neighbors some holiday cheer.”
Project partners this year include Gladstone High School, the Gladstone Police, Gladstone Public Library, Fire District 1, Rotary of Gladstone/Oak Lodge, Gladstone Kiwanis, The Clackamas Bookshelf, Happyrock Coffee Roasting Co., The Gladstone Card Room, Gladstone School District staff, and the Oregon Conference of Seventh Day Adventists.

New managers take charge in the Gladstone District
Two new leaders joined the Gladstone School District in December. Aubrey Jarvis is the new Technology Supervisor, and Ivan Leigh is the new Facilities Manager. Both replace Ryan Johnson, who left the district this fall.
Jarvis served six years in the Gaston School District as Technology Director. She holds a B.A. in Literature from Linfield College and is one of few Certified Education Technology Leaders in the Northwest.
"We appreciate that Aubrey understands the balance between quickly fixing a technical issue and taking the time to teach others how to use technology," said Superintendent Bob Stewart. "We look forward to bringing her expertise to our leadership team."
Leigh brings 24 years of experience in facilities maintenance, with over 11 of those years in K-12 facility management. He has completed an Oregon State Project Management Certification program and continues to work toward achieving a PMP certification. For the past six years, he served as Facility Coordinator for the Woodburn School District.
"We know he has a deep understanding of project management," said Stewart. "His ability to work effectively with contractors, vendors, principals and administrative staff will be an asset to our team."
The Gladstone Food Pantry is open regular hours during Winter Break.
Share Hope USA donates Play-Doh to kindergarten
Share Hope USA was started by Symond Boschetto when he was eight years old. He is now 15. After initially working to help the homeless, he then started collecting Play-Doh for the children's hospital when he found out that the only toy that cannot be disinfected is Play-Doh.
"Annually we have our Play-Doh Drive benefiting children's hospitals in Portland, Los Angeles, and New York," said Boschetto. "Over the past 5 years, we have collected over 50,000 containers of Play-Doh. Our goal is to have our Play-Doh drive in every school, where through the use of Play-Doh kids are able to learn the power of kindness, compassion, and empathy."
Boschetto is the son of the school district's Student and Family Advocate Yesenia Boschetto, who works at the Gladstone Center for Children and Families.
The Gladstone Kids Clothes Closet will be closed Dec. 31.
A holiday message
The holiday season is here and we wish our Gladstone families a wonderful next few weeks. We are so fortunate to have a lovely and caring community. To make the holidays extra special, consider reaching out to friends and neighbors that might be going through a difficult time. Families might be experiencing the loss of a loved one, economic hardship, or other situations we may not be aware of. If you are unsure how to connect or what to say, try the following statements to offer comfort and support:
• “Season’s greetings and a lot of love from our home to yours. We wish you nothing but the best of health and a much better year ahead. Happy holidays!”
• “May the coming year be better than this one. Wishing you joy and good cheer throughout the holiday season and know that you are in our thoughts.”
Sending warm Winter Wishes,

Help our state plan Internet infrastructure
Faster Internet Oregon speed test campaign is a statewide broadband mapping effort for Oregonians to report Internet speeds or a lack of connection at home.
The Faster Internet Oregon project will provide decision-makers with data to:
• Identify Oregon hones that lack high speed Internet;
• Clarify which households don't have an Internet connection and why;
• Provide cost estimates and assess competitive viability of a variety of technical solutions for areas with identified service gaps.
The campaign will help secure infrastucture funding across the state and ensure the funding is equitably allocated so everyone has access to fast, affordable Internet Service.
To help identify Oregon areas with the greatest need for high speed broadband, use this link. It takes less than 1 minute.
