Mayfield Messenger

Week 8 Edition of the Mayfield Messenger

Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Good Evening Mayfield Intermediate School students and families!

October is the month that Virginia School Board Association recognizes Bullying Prevention Month. Here at Mayfield Intermediate School, we strive to ensure that all our students feel accepted and connected with the students and staff. This positive connection must be established so that students can be present every day at school and prepared to learn.

We address all claims of bullying at Mayfield Intermediate School immediately and resolve situations between students so our community can continue to flourish. Childhood bullying is a significant problem nationwide. It can cause school absenteeism, mental and physical stress, poor school performance, poor self-esteem, and, in some cases, school violence. One out of every five (20.2%) students report being bullied, According to the National Center for Educational Statistics 2019. This means that upwards of thirteen million school-aged children are bullied each year.

Monday, October 3, is Blue Shirt Day as well. We are hoping to see all our teachers, students, and staff wear blue on Monday in support of stomping out bullying at Mayfield Intermediate School.

Always Learning,

Dr. Donald Frischkorn

Principal

Happy National Translators Day

Today is International Translation Day. In 2017, to honor one of the oldest vocations and recognize translators, interpreters, and terminologists across the globe, the United Nations General Assembly declared September 30th to be International Translation Day.

Today, we pay tribute to those who paved the way for the important work of all language professionals. The UN says International Translation Day is meant as an opportunity to pay tribute to the work of language professionals, which plays an important role in bringing nations together, facilitating dialogue, understanding, and cooperation, contributing to development, and strengthening world peace and security. You can read more about International Translation Day on the United Nations site.

Thank you to ALL the language specialists who serve our MCPS families and our school community. Our staff translators/interpreters are as follows:

Student Attendance Matters!

Mayfield Intermediate School is focused on supporting and improving our student's attendance. We are challenging our students to have perfect attendance during October, and we will celebrate those with perfect attendance with a small token of appreciation. Please know that students being at school every day matters! Our staff does several things to ensure that our school is a safe and nurturing environment.

Big picture

Student Code of Conduct

Students at Mayfield Intermediate follow the same Student Code of Conduct that ALL students in Manassas City Public Schools follow. Students and parents must read and review the Student Code of Conduct Regularly. We keep the Student Code of Conduct attached as a file at the bottom of every Mayfield Messenger that we send.
